How would you react to a player dictatorship in WoW ?

It is something I always imagined while playing MMOs.

Do you think that given enough efforts and time, a player or group of players could enforce a dictatorship in a virtual world that isnt specifically designed to allow it ?

Let's say that I have good PR, funds, sufficient manpower in both factions and influent allies such as guild masters and the like, i assume it would be possible to use the threat of spawn killing to ultimately bend everyone to my will.



I'm curious about how you guys would react if your faction or the opposite one suddenly went full nazi and started coercing players ?

It is definitely possible on pvp realms to harass people to the point that they cannot enjoy the game, but it rare and not institutionalized.

Kind of in some situation, for example on hellfire horde during cataclysm. I had a friend who dominated the glyph market. He bought most of the herbs off most people by CoD because he could afford to pay the players more than everyone else. If someone under cut him on the AH for glyphs, he'd buy them out, quite often you'd look at the ah and it would only be his stuff on there.

Sometimes, he had control over the price of certain glyphs due to the thousands he had in there, but that was only some times. Even on a dead server, that many players on, always someone on when hes asleep, you can't control it indefo. But he defo had a massive influence on the market, and a reputation from buying the herbs.

Nope. This doesn't force me to do anything I don't want to do or do what they want me to do.

I don't see how this could happen in WOW on a pve server. How are they going to force me to do anything you don't want to do?

You might could get this in something like EVE or Galaxies or Black Desert (maybe) in WOW no.

Dictatorships work in real life because there are no spirit healers and you can't unflag.

But not being able to access the vast majority or zones and having you and your guild tracked down can seriously hinder you progression in the game and your ability to enjoy it

A dictatorship relies on forced governance, something that does not exist in WoW. The solution is simple, stop playing. Once enough people stop playing, those who actually control the game, will take care of the players trying to gain control via nefarious means.

I would not care. As in real life. If I would have lived in Germany during nazi time, doing nothing would have got me alive and without punishment.

Someone who does nothing is always in a minority. That's why anything will always win against them. But that's the goal of people who do nothing. Socrates bothered to write about a demon. He failed himself with doing that.

Wouldn't work in wow.

1) Game Masters. They would stop shit like that happening if it actually got that far. They usually do not involve themselves in PvP matters, but they can in excessive cases, which they have.
2) Anonymity. Can't actually threaten anyone. Also against ToS.
3) No-one would go their way to spawn kill someone endlessly because someone told them to. If someone gives gold to do so, you can just take the gold and do nothing. Or if someone was that insane and actually spawn camp someone, the victim could just realm hop to a PvE one and continue doing whatever.

I always imgianed making so much money on the AH to just buy everything that is at its normal price, so nobody can buy anything on the AH.

The only games I've played with such a feature was in Space Cow Online [Ace Online] and Elder Scrolls Online.

People of such positions only existed for their own gains though.

A lot of WOW Guilds are run like small dictatorships.
Some Guild masters have favorites.

Guild masters may not even like you on chat when you raid with them, because you do not laugh at their inane jokes.
