Eh, I prefer this cover of Radioactive
Alright, opinion tiem on covers I prefer
Pictures of Matchstick Men Camper van Beethoven(Status Quo)
Won't Back Down Johnny Cash(Tom Petty)
Rollover Beethoven Electric Light Orchestra(Chuck Berry)
Land of Confusion Disturbed(Genesis)
Not exactly better, but I like a lot
Dark Side of the Moon Dream Theater
Umm, that's not a cover, that's Creedence's song originally. John Fogerty wrote it, and it was first released on Bayou Country in 1969. Ike and Tina Turner covered it in 1970.
As for me, covers I prefer to the original(or at least rank really closely):
Johnny Cash-Hurt(original:Nine Inch Nails)
October 31-The Power and the Glory(original:Saxon)
In Flames-Everything Counts(original:Depeche Mode)
Disturbed-The Sound of Silence(original:Simon & Garfunkel)
Robert Earl Keene-Sonora's Death Row(original:Kevin Farrell. Michael Martin Murphey also covered this, and I prefer his to Farrell's version as well, but not as much as Keene's)
Edguy-Hymn(original:Ultravox)
Paradox-S.O.S.(original:Abba)
Blind Guardian-Trial by Fire(original:Satan)
Steve Earle-The Devil's Right Hand(original:Waylon Jennings, not sure if this counts though since Earle actually wrote the song for Waylon originally)
Waylon Jennings-Turn the Page(original:Bob Seger)
The Who-Saturday Night's All Right For Fighting(original:Elton John)
Dropkick Murphys-The Green Fields of France(original:Eric Bogle under the title "No Man's Land")
Ghost Riders in the Sky was originally performed by Stan Jones, but it's been covered many times, and I prefer many of the cover versions, for example, Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, and The Outlaws.
Even though it was probably a cash grab above all, these guys actually managed to make the song not bad and quite catchy (considering my music preferences).
Original
That's not a fair comparison.
You are comparing a cover of the One Winged Angel from the Advent Children movie to the track from the original PS1 game.
That's like bringing a gun to a knife fight.
How about you compare the cover to the track it's actually covering?
I believe only covers that do it "differently" can ever surpass the original. Although it's ultimately subjective.
Here is an example:

Not a fan of the original. I like this version quite bit though.

I love Warcraft, I dislike WoW
Unsubbed since January 2021, now a Warcraft fan from a distance
I like me some NIN, but even Trent agrees, Johnny cash blew Hurt out of the water, its pretty powerful stuff
I prefer David Gray's Say Hello, Wave Goodbye to Soft Cell's, though I almost always prefer the first version of a song I hear. I should not publicly admit this, but I seem to like most of Ellie Goulding's covers over the originals. Especially Sweet Disposition, and I love the original. I also like Jasmine Thompson's cover of Breathe Me over Sia's.
Yeah, this gachimuchi cancer remix is 1000 times better than the original.
