While Garrosh is a good warrior he is pretty much defenceless against a powerful Warlock spellcaster that Guldan is.

Dude are you serious?
He "nukestomp" drained Durotan because they were fistfighting, lol...
Not only was Durotan taken by surprise, it took Gul'dan quite a while to do so.
Now put a weapon in Durotan's hands and you might have to watch both Gul'dan's cleaved halves dreaming about nukestomp drainining Durotan from two opposite corners of the arena.

It doesn't work that way.
Spellcaster villains always seem stronger than they really are because they are often at X location using Y artifact with the help of Z creature after preparing W ritual.
Essentially, when you see Gul'dan easily destroying stuff, he had time to prepare and stack a bunch of advantages.

Mak'gora is performed without weapons.
So both cheated.
Garrosh used weapons.
Thrall's main weapon is spellcasting.

Mak'gora allows one weapon per part. It's also allowed the blessing of a shaman on said weapon, even though is not strictly required.
Yeah, but is not like he started using spells from the beginning. Thrall proved he could stand his ground against Garrosh with his own allowed weapon and martial prowess. I don't see the point of a "duel of honor" if you can just roflstomp your opponent at any time with lolmagic.Thrall's main weapon is spellcasting.
This said, both Garrosh and Thrall broke several rules of the traditional take of the duel. They didn't even have visible witnesses during the fight, something Gul'dan and Durotan definitely had in the movie.
We're talking Legion vs. Void by proxy. Depends on what point in their career and how buffed they are.

Not trying to dodge the question; it's potentially a good match, but both of them go up and down in power so much...
"I Am Vengeance. I Am The Night. I Am Felfáádaern!"
If you remember in the movie Guldan didn't use his full power at the start as you could see he was trying to use his powers from the witnesses. When the Dark Portal flashed Green then Guldan said that he doesnt have time for this which Blackhand responded that the battle will continue and then he used his full power and Durotan was pretty much defenceless.
As for the preparation it doesn't matter how much preparation he can do. They are facing each other in an open field each one some steps away from the other waiting for the referee to signal the start of the battle. At best Garrosh could take him by surprise but apart from that he is defenceless against a very powerful spellcaster.
