    Mandela effect

So the Mandela effect is an interesting phenomenon. The Berenstain bears is a common example. I personally remember them as Berenstein bears but apparently that's never been so. Apparently alot of people remember it like this. Which way do you guys remember it? Berenstain or berenstein?

That word was too big for me to read back when I was into those books, really didn't pay attention.

I have no idea what that is you're talking about, probably an American only thing (i have seen 2-3 threads about the same thing recently on here though), but it did remind me of this article:

    http://www.geek.com/news/how-i-used-...ernet-1656188/

TL:DR - A guy invented loads of shit about Street Sharks that got spread throughout IMDB, Wiki pages and whatnot, and people talked about these invented characters, remembering episodes they'd seen, episodes that never existed.

It's an amusing read, I remember Street Sharks existing, but remember almost nothing about it /shrug

So Berenstain bears is a children's book and was also a cartoon back in like the early 90's late 80's. A large portion of the population recalls the name spelled Berenstein bears instead of berenstain bears. People say this is proof that parallel universes exist because so many people remember it one way and others another way. Here's a video.

I remember also an article on cracked talked about how someone would get photoshopped into a hot air balloon when they had never been in one and upon being shown the picture would suddenly have a recollection of it.

    Human memory is tricky,

I can never find the video of this study but they used UFO crashes as an example. Basically they took hikers through the desert and at one point they would run across a bunch of metal on the ground, just scrap metallic shiny metal and a guy in uniform with a gun telling them they can't come near this stuff.

After a month or two the group swore they saw a light in the sky, a dead alien body, multiple guards, Military vehicles, helicopters and weird alien writing.

Much like "Nelson Mandela died in prison."

It's pronounced 'bear-en-steen' bears... seems reasonable to spell it 'berenstein.' What obsessed fan knows it's actually spelled 'berenstain'?

This is just a stupid example of people being better at recalling the pronunciation of words than the spelling, nothing more.

I remember the image of them, but I don't remember the name of the family.

It's pronounced -shtine (like sh[i]t[w]ine). Bärenstein - bears rock. It's germanic etc. Nothing to do with any psychological effect. It's just the human brain being it's shitty self, and english speakers sucking at differently spelled/spoken languages. It's fine, no need to over-analyze anything.

Spelling has never been a strong suit of Americans, especially kids.

I swear some of the threads that get created here are like the threads on a drugforum that i read sometimes, esspecially the emergency section, where people start threads where its almost impossible to understand why it was started or what the OP wishes to get out of it. I really felt i was reading one of those and had to imagine the OP high as fuck to make sense of this thread start.

"Berenstain" has probably never been used - some people may incorrectly pronounce it like that but "Berenstein" is obviously correct.

no, fuck no. they were the berenstein bears, that's the truth, that's the way it was on EVERY book, there's no fucking way it's stain.

My name is Luke in real life, and every time someone thinks they're being so fucking clever, they go with "Luke, I am your father." So you're not the only one.

Even Earl Jones remembers his line using the "luke" so he is from my timeline

It's probably the fallibility of our brains if I'm honest, but I would much prefer if it was something like alternative universes or some sort of quantum effect. We already know that it's surprisingly easy to make humans hallucinate and have their brains fill in the gaps to certain things, and that the reality is every sensory input we take in is just a limited interpretation of what goes on in the universe around us, but it's so much cooler to think people are popping in and out of different realities without even knowing.
