Wow, this really rustled my fedora. I'm gonna go vent on my black lives matter blog to calm down and maybe text my girlfriend, who I'm pretty sure is cheating on me, but that's ok because she is a strong independent woman and can do whatever she wants.

I'm not sure why so many of you feel the need to point that out. But, in case you had a hard time telling, this is not a serious poll at all. It was made with the intent of highlighting how absurd the notion of punishing people on the internet for their speech and/or attempts to censor it truly is, outside of extreme circumstances (such as people who engage in discussions for no purpose but to derail them or to anger other people through a variety of means, people who post extremely graphic images, child pornography etc) that do not fit into the category of most cases.

In particular, it is a trivial pursuit because such attempts at controlling speech does not actually do anything to stop bad behavior on the internet. There are literally infinite ways to be a complete dick. So in online communities where policy is set up to punish relatively minor things it just produces a space where truly problematic, disruptive and malicious people are free to roam so long as they don't do certain overt things such as using certain words.

On the internet, unlike in real life where you do not have customized user-settings outside of your own personal space that you rent out or own you literally pick and choose what you see and don't see. Because of this it is especially absurd that people would spend so much time and energy into forcing so many others to conform to what they want, or even expecting it.

Clearly the vast majority of us playing World of Warcraft do not give two shits about profanity and so on. And for that reason alone (one really does not need to make the case beyond that) it makes absolutely no sense from a business stand point to cater to people that complain so very much about how bothered they are by what people say and do because everyone does/says things that bother other people and all of that is extremely subjective.

Now go back and think about why you feel the poll choices are terrible. I think you and everyone who has said this in reality would have a hard time thinking of a single good choice to include and instead feel the choices are bad because it doesn't have the obvious choice of some variation on "because I'm not offended by things".

Because i'm not offended by others dead set on making themselves look like they have the same verbal skills and intelligence of some random pondlife which can't string more than half a sentence together without feeling the need to swear.

People who are easily offended by bad language and trolling in a game such as WoW are amusing,unlike real life we are given an option to ignore the idiots in-game with the click of a button and never have to deal with them again,either learn to use it to your advantage or try to thicken your skin.

Because my guild is full of adults and we tend to use profanity in select situations to emphasize our language.

"They're camping the respawn." vs "They're FUCKING camping the GOD DAMN respawn."

Same here. Profanity doesn't bother me in the least. I don't use it in public chat channels because it's against the rules, but I do use it in guild chat all the time. Sometimes guild chat sounds like a George Carlin convention. And yet it's still friendly.

I have it turned off because I'm against censorship. I don't want somebody else deciding what I can see. I like knowing what's been said instead of guessing. Even if it's unpleasant, I'd rather know the truth about what's going on than have certain parts of it filtered out.

But, just out of curiosity how often a day do you go on the internet, encounter a completely random stranger and then advise them to seek therapy and accuse them of being a sociopath? Have you ever considered trying that in real life just to see what would happen?

If someone insults you in any way, censoring this with symbols doesn't help. Seeing those symbols still makes u think you just got insulted.
In my opinion this censorship is pretty much useless.
