New pc build (Gtx 1070) and G sync monitor but fps drop?

    Hi everyone,

I this week built myself a new pc, GTX 1070 MSI Aero, intel I5 6600k, 16gb ddr4 ram, msi z170 gaming pro carbon mobo with a 750w PSU.

with this my FPS wasnt as amazing as id had hoped, getting around 90fps in my garrison on near ultra, i did expect a lot more to be honest, the settings arnt cranked up hugely from my 780 yet the fps is only a bit better.

however even more confusing now, I just recieved a new Gsync monitor, its the AOC G2460PG 24inch, 1080p 144hz, however with this ive seen a big hit on my fps in wow. usually I played windowed fullscreen but thats now impossive as it just goes to like 15fps, but even full screen im getting 50-70 fps in my garrison and in warspear.

im just wondering if maybe I have a certain setting thats messing something up, or if its a known driver issue or if anyone else has had a similar problem?
    Many thanks in advanced

    EDIT:

Just to clarify I am running with v-sync off ofc, a few things ive done is like playing around with render scale from 100% to 200% and vice-versa but has no affect.

Also gpu and cpu temps are pretty good, gpu staying at around 65c and cpu about 45-50c

Power mode is on performance in control panel

Overwatch is running nicely although again id hoped the new rig would give higher fps although with the new monitor ive seen a hit of about 10fps

Another example of someone getting duped into gsync. Gsync is a literal pile of shit technology, its only useful if you are playing on a 4k screen and dip under 60 fps regularly....thats it.

If you have time to return it do it, buy a 60 fps 1440p monitor you will be much happier...and leave vsync on.

I don't think Gsync works in windowed mode. Also a GTX 1070 won't do a thing for WoW since WoW is cpu limited. At least OverWatch will run at 150 fps for you, but then Gsync will cap it to 60 fps, depending on the refresh rate of the monitor.

GSync works in Windowed mode, it's even advertised that way from Nvidia. GSync will cap the FPS at 144, which is the refreshrate on the monitor.

Zanez: Try to reinstall the GPU drivers from Nvidia's official website. Remove the current ones with DisplayDriverUinstaller.

Umm no, i should have mentioned that but gsync ONLY works in fullscreen modes.

The monitor is actually amazing, however its reducing frames which is the problem (and not one ive seen mentioned before)

So please dont post, youre not helping

I am helping, you arent listening.

I am playing in fullscfreen now as it gives better FPS. my CPU is pretty good as i understand. my monitor is 144hz and OW is at like 90fps

Gsync does not improve frame rates, its a very VERY specific technology that will NOT help you in the games you play at the resolution you are playing them at. Im not kidding, return that monitor or sell it on the used market and buy a quality 1440 monitor.

Will try that and report back, thanks

Im not looking for improved frame rate, i understand how g sync works but whats confusing is why its reduced frame rate

You clearly do not understand how gsync works otherwise you wouldnt have bought it. I have no idea what you mean by it "reducing" fps because that simply isnt possible unless you are running it improperly. But trust me, with your rig and the games you are playing you are far better off returning that and getting a good quality 1440p monitor.

Wow is CPU heavy, not GPU.

seriously? my computer is not putting out as much fps as i had on my last monitor, thats the problem. my other problem is that my fps seems a bit low anyway, considering my specs.

What you are telling me isnt possible. Are you sure you are hooked up to your monitor using display port and are playing in fullscreen mode ? (these are the only conditions gsync works). But im telling you even when connected properly gsync is an inferior solution to 1440p or lightboost (this is called ultra low motion blur on your gsync monitor).

yeah i cant play in windowed anyway (although gsync is enabled for windowed/fullscreen.), display port straight to gpu. I know the pros/cons of monitors ive been looking alot before buying this. I got this one refurbished for a very good price, main point of buying being its 144hz.

even with G sync turned off, im getting reduced fps.

got the same gpu and a gsync screen. gsync only work in full window mode. also you need vertical sync off in game.

honestly. go without gsync for wow, vert sync on, you ll be maxed out at 60 fps all the time.

Gsync does not function in any windowed mode including windowed fullscreen. As for your FPS drops they make no sense, literally. A monitor cannot affect FPS like you are describing.

Try overclocking your cpu you should be able to get it to 4GHz easy even with a regular heatsink without having to set the voltage too high.
and G-Sync does work in windowed lol

How did you set your graphics settings? Did you wing it in game, or did you use the nvidia gforce experience? The gforce experience can do some optimization tricks that aren't accessible via the in-game graphics settings. That being said, if you did use that, there is a chance that the render scale is higher than the resolution of your monitor.... which I don't think is even an option in-game. Anyway, dick around with the nvidia gforce experience, or if you did you use that, render scale might be your issue.

I know Im really confused but its pretty obvious by the numbers, is it possible its driver related though?

yeah i see the option for g sync to work in windowed by i just lag horrificly in windowed mode annoyingly.

as for OC'in, i will probs give it a go tomorrow, I have a Hyper 212 cpu cooler. However my cpu's load is never really high on wow, it doesnt feel like my cpu is limiting fps

Ill keep playing with geforce experience, ive tried a few different things. I've tried the render scale between 100 and 200% but it makes 0 difference to my fps. is there a sweet spot for render scale btw? I dont really understand where it should be at.
