Dream again: The Greatest Benefit of having Sub-races

    The Great Benefit of Sub-Races:

This provides a host of new opportunities to the races without tampering with the existing models, both in terms of appearance and fantasy that should not be missed. But most of all, extended lore - With sub-races you get a lot more lore on your race, they expand the racial group, often adding new speciliazations, and not crapping ones, some of these sub-race groups are at the height of their field e.g. Eredar Warlocks

Each race brings some significant pluses to the table by having alternative races: Were' not just talking skin customizations, and that should also come as part of the revamp, Sub-races can provide so much more for player diversity, refreshing of the races. But for me the clincher is a new version of the race, especially if you don't like the current one.

How many people don't like orcs because of their face or their hunch? And if that was to change with a half-orc? Can you imagine, what that could do to the Orc population? Here is an example of what we already get.

    • Draenei: Man'ari Eredar give the strong Eredar warlock fantasy without compromising the Draenei, Broken provide that tribal and stealth fantasy.
    • Orcs: Half-orcs/ogres can be straight backed alternatives, slimmer/milder (human), thicker/scarier (ogre)
    • Humans: Half-elves give access to an alternative model that can double as an alternative elf or human (by just changing the ears/eyebrow length in Character Creation screen). Azotha gives the closest to vrykul human can get
    • [Night elves: Nightborne give that dark elf arcane caster fantasy of the Highborne/pre-sundering night elves era, the missing part to the night elf fantasy we all coveted in the narrative.
    • Blood elves: Darkfallen give that vampire blood sucker new vibe to the Belves whereas a recovering Wretched provides a more dishevelled version of the blood elf. Also Half-elves gives access tot he same alternative model that can double up as an alternative elf or human by merely adjusting the height of the ears/eyebrows.
    • Trolls: Zandalari provide both an upright and more sophisticated, more sinister version of trolls, Whiles Drakaarri Ice Troll provide a muscular version of the same current troll model with a more necromantic tinge to their fantasy.

The point is each group brings something different, interesting, alternative and coveted to the player populace all without actually changing the main race. With the nightborne around you don't need to make the night elves super arcane heavy, because they have the nightborne group to show that, don't need to change the normal orc model to straight back because now they can have access tot eh new one.

Finally - it really gives blizzard a chance to actually give the sort of different models for the races that they may have wanted to do with the model revap but couldn't because people would have been too attached to them, these sub-races can actually use a new concept of the race - just like nightborne have done for the night elves, so too can half-orcs do for the orcs, half-elves do for both human and blood elf. Zandalari trolls an upright version of trolls.

    Pracitcal?
You think blizzard can't pull it off? Think again:

They pulled off 10 complete model revamps to 10 races in WoD
Sub-races do not require a brand new starting zone - they already have areas, and level scaling can be used.
They provided 35 unique artifact quests, and 12 Class quest lines in Legion: They can manage 12 sub-race starting quest chains or scenarios to fill out most of the intro lore.

Guys, a sub-race is much less work than a full race all around, and it is certainly doable within a full expansion cycle. Finally, blizzard are ont limited to releasing 12 immediately, they can stagger, do 12 now, 12 later, start with 6. Give 12 free ones, and 12 purchaseable only ones.

    Sub-race Examples that fit:

    • Orcs: Half-orc/human (upright), Half-ogre [Mag'har orc, Dragonmaw, Black-rock are skin variations]
    • Draenei - Broken, Man'ari Eredar, Half-orc/draenei
    • Human: Azotha (btwn Vrykul & human:swap Arathi human models), Half-elf
    • Forsaken: Kvaldir-like Undead Azotha, Unliving - less decayed undead/ Undead Hlf Elf
    • Trolls: Zandalari, Forest (Raventusk), Ice Troll.
    • Worgen: Blackhowl (drakonid worgen), Night elf worgen
    • Tauren: Taunka, Yaungol, ( Highmountain horns and face paint added to normal Tauren customization)
    • Dwarves: Dark Irons, Frost Dwarves (Wildhammer tattoos are cusotmizations on normal dwarves)
    • Goblins: Gilgoblin, Tinker (half machine/goblin)
    • Gnome: Mechagnomes, Leper Gnome
    • Blood Elf: Sunfallen (Recovering Wretched new BElf based model), Darkfallen (vampire San'layn elf), Half-Elf (available on humans too)
    • Night Elf: Nightborne, Cenarian/Half Cenarion (keeper/dryads - can shapeshift to bi-pedal optionally esp for flying mounts )

Of this group only Half-Elves and Half-orcs will be available to both factions allowing some versatility but keeping the ajority (24 additions over 5 years) unique.
This is not a replacement to new skins, new skins will be given as well as the original races need some extra options.
