So my question to the GOP, from someone who wants to see a healthy 2 (or more) party system.
How bad will Trump split the party after all of this is said and done? There was an analysis that I agreed with after the debate:
The Debate's Biggest Loser Was the GOP
Trump does just well enough to doom Republicans on November 8.

A lot of democrats may think this is a good thing... But I do not think it is. Because it lets the Democratic Party run some pretty bad (content/policy wise) presidential nominees... It is akin to having a monopoly... it is never a good thing for the people to have only one "real" choice in a party(or anything else).
My guess, is that the GOP suffers no matter if Trump wins or loses. Because he will either inject the xenophobic/bigoted alt-right into the party, permanently, or divide the GOP base, where without major changes the GOP will be irrelevant.
If he loses he can go on to be the new ringleader (via media) of the alt-right movement, splintering the GOP (which is actually a good thing, IMO, the GOP needs to attract a better base) but in doing so, probably throwing a lot of the Republicans out of states that are becoming the bastions of the alt-right and people like Cliven Bundy.
So what is your projection on what is going on within your party @
