    yet another -=new rig=- thread - help?

    hello fellow gamers.

I've been contemplating for a couple months whether i should get a new rig. I am pretty much starting from scratch due to a move halfway across the world. Anyways, I would appreciate some advice on parts, I know some of you out there love to help the next door newbie! I've helped build PCs before, never done it on my own. However I am pretty savvy, careful and not afraid - plus it's something on my bucket list.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Budget: up to 2000 CAD (~1530 USD). Preferably 1800. I.e. after tax.
    Resolution: 1920*1080
Games / Settings Desired: WoW 7.0 (maxed out). Other: Cities Skylines, Hearthstone, wanna try Overwatch (not usually FPS gamer).
    Country: CANADA - BC
Parts that can be reused: I have already purchased a monitor
Do you need an OS? Yes
Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)? Yes: mouse, keyboard, speakers

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's what I have come up with so far, mainly inspired by the mmo-c build, forum threads and a good friend. Targeting WoW Legion and want to be set up in time for Release. I do want the rig to be somewhat future-proof, however I was never one to play all newest games. I focus on 1-3.

I AM ORDERING FROM CANADA. All US prices have been converted using XE Currency converter. Taxes not included.

Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 (69.98 CAD ~ 54.55 USD)
    CPU: INTEL® CORE™ I5-6600K 3.50GHZ (309.99 CAD ~ 237 USD)
Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Do I need a more expensive one? (25.38 CAD ~ 19.41 USD)
    Motherboard: ASUS Z170-A ATX (203.02 CAD ~ 155.55 USD)
    Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16G 2X8GB 2133MHZ DDR4 (89.99 CAD ~ 68.85 USD)
    Storage: CRUCIAL® BX200 240GB SSD SATA 2.5” 7MM (With 9.5MM Adapter) (84.99 CAD ~ 65 USD)
Storage: Western Digital 1 TB SATA III 7200 RPM (89.99 CAD ~ 68.85 USD)
Video Card: I believe one of the RX 480 partner cards will be sufficient for me and push the price down a bit. I also do not believe in paying premium dollar for a non-fully developed GPU so.. anything above the 1060 is kind of a no-go in my eyes. In Canada the RX 480s partner cards are not available as of yet, price point should be between 300-380 CAD before tax. Any thoughts?
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 750G2 80 Plus Gold Certified I would normally go for the 650, however this one is available for the same price right now. (134.99 CAD ~ 103.25 USD)

Monitor: Dell UltraSharp 24 InfinityEdge Monitor | U2417H got it on sale. (315 CAD ~ 240 USD)
Mouse: Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury (69.98 CAD ~ 54.55 USD)
    Keyboard: Logitech G105 6 Programmable G-KEY Gaming Keyboard (40.76 CAD ~ 31.18 USD)

Total: 1431.07 CAD (~1095 USD) W/O Graphics Card. I.e. 1603 CAD (~1226 USD) after tax here in BC.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This leaves me with 200-400 real dollars left to work with for the graphics unit. As I mentioned before, 2000 is ok. However if there's any way to decrease this to 1800 without sacrificing anything significant - or simply getting a better bang for the same buck - or maybe I have overestimated my needs somewhere... That's where I need you guys to come in. I would highly appreciate it. Cheers.

If you are not an avid gamer, especially FPS games, and you use your computer just for Overwatch, Cities, Hearthstone and WoW, the 1070 is complete overkill, especially since you bought a 1080p monitor. A 1060 becomes a much better choice and will save you ~200 CAD. Also, I assume you're overclocking, because if you aren't, you can shave off another 150-200 CAD by getting a non "k" i5 with a motherboard and memories to match, as well as scrapping the cpu cooler. But anyway, here you go:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

    CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($305.95 @ shopRBC)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! PURE ROCK 51.7 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($49.98 @ NCIX)
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($149.99 @ NCIX)
    Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($84.99 @ Newegg Canada)
    Storage: Crucial BX200 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($84.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.99 @ Canada Computers)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card ($564.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Case: NZXT S340 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case ($94.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($104.99 @ NCIX)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit ($115.95 @ shopRBC)

Mouse: Logitech G402 Wired Optical Mouse ($71.00 @ Newegg Canada)

Hi hellhamster! First of all thanks a lot for putting so much effort into this, appreciate it. And I totally agree on the 1070 being overkill with you - I do not think I mentioned it in the op but it does not matter. I will go for one of the partner variants of the RX 480. I believe its the bigger bang for the buck even compared to the 1060.
I like the savings on the Motherboard. What's the crucial difference between the Gigabyte GA-Z170X and the Asus Z170-A ATX?
I like the be quiet! CPU heatsink too. Seems a lot better than the Cooler Master and it's pretty much the same price.

Hey Thunderball, I am not sure. I have never done it and no experience with it. However I was told that it is pretty easy nowadays - so I figured getting a K variant is more future proof? Correct me if I am wrong. Also comparing prices, the i5-6600 was just 20 CAD cheaper. At least what I found. So that was my thought process. I know there is no generic answers to this, but what kind of overclocking potential does the i5-6600K even have? If I just played the games mentioned above and tried a new title here and there - would I need to overclock in the next 5 years or would it mainly come down to upgrading the graphics unit?

Thanks for your help guys, cheers
