We can detect genetic anomalies early on during pregnancy. I don't see the need to terminate the pregnancy or suggest it if they can predict a healthy and normal newborn.

Regardless of whether or not you talk about Freud now (in your graduate studies) you probably discussed him in your undergraduate program because he helped form the base of psychology and some of his work still holds up today. The Oedipus complex isn't really proven or disproven - you can't say everyone has sexual feelings toward their parents or doesn't. Branching off that, looking for traits from our parents in partners is something that still happens - quite regularly (for example a man wearing the same cologne as his girlfriends father).

Yeah we talked about him the first week of Psych 101, where the section on Freud was concluded with the statement that much of Freud's work has been dismissed, mostly due to lack of empirical support. Freud is prior to the establishment of the scientific method and current day research testing methodology, Oedipus complex in particular hasn't held up in research. Bandura did some research on Oedipus Complex fifteen or so years ago, there has been other research done but nothing has held up to scrutiny.

There is absolutely NO legal reason why incest (and polygamy after that) should not be 100% legal. There are tons of emotional reasons ... but with gay marriage no legal in most places, there is no legal justification behind preventing or even punishing incest.

All I can do is to fully agree with a comment on that website

After passing through the ick factor, I feel intensely sorry for these two people. They are likely too poor to get the therapy they need (plus New Mexico is one of the poorest states in the US ) And after this feeling passes, which it likely will, they will both likely experience isolation from their community, extreme guilt and depression which, again, when left untreated can be extremely dangerous.

This isn't just "Mom and Son..." clickbait crap, they actually didn't see each other since his birth because he was given to adoption, and when relatives meet that way again, they often have confused feelings which sometimes result in something that resembles "love" but not the same way as you'd love your relatives but more the "love" you have for another woman, for example.

Best example would be to consider that half-siblings (or a child that has been adopted) are normally just as grossed out thinking about doing it with their brother/sister as regular siblings from the same parents are. It's with whom you grow up with, not with whom you are biologically connected with.
