The man is retiring. He gave a go at president, he tried to fight the system and lost. The man is old.

He has made over 3 million from his salary as senator/rep over the last 20 years.

    600k isn't a lot of money.

What does 600k buy you in say California?

    Ya'll need to fucking relax.

600k for home is typical for middle class. Its the upper echelon of the middle class. But its still middle class.

While he personally made a salary of $174,000 as a senator. His tax reform plan and budget plan to get the country out of debt mainly effected people making upwards of $200,000 or more.

looks like that was answered in the article.

“We’ve been impressed with the North Hero community, eaten at the North Hero House and Shore Acres and have suggested them to friends who were looking for a beautiful place to stay or have dinner. St. Anne’s Shrine in Isle La Motte is my favorite church and it is nearby.”
“We finally let go of it and that enabled us to buy a place in the islands — something I’ve always hoped for. ”
They've been there many times, like the community and they always wanted to live on the islands. I guess they didn't do a racial profile of the place to make sure it was PC enough for you; you should write a letter and complain!

US Senators get paid $174,000 with a lot of perks, so buying a $600,000 home is nothing unusual. Owning multiple houses is a little gauche for a populist, but you gotta spend your wife's golden parachute for bankrupting Burlington College somewhere.

He's free to spend his money as he chooses. I do expect he'll do the book/speaking route as soon as he leaves he Senate, but just get paid less for it.

Posting what California real estate looks like as a reference for buying real estate anywhere else in the universe is fucking retarded, sorry. Your point is fine; this is all silly but, give me a break posting irrelevant real estate from around world. That same amount won't even buy you a 500' condo on Manhattan but, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Almost no MacDonald employees actually make min wage.

If you really want to start blowing the minds of the Bernie Bros, ask them where his campaign fund goes when he retires from politics.

I got nieces and nephews that age, so I can assure you are wrong. In my town, every single person except the manager makes the minimum. They don't even have assistant managers, just managers.

Look, there is no way you will ever convince another human that a McDonald's employee can buy a 600k house. Just let it go man. Let it go...

Is it normal to mock politics for not being super rich in the US?

Because that sounds like a terrible requirement for running for office[Being rich]

You know, for earning about $200k per year, a house worth $600k doesn't seem all that big. There are properties worth 50% more than that he could easily have gotten.

Oh, and North Hero? You're really not missing all that much. There's a nut-free chocolatier, a better-than-average part-year farmstand with pies, and a bar with kickass garlic knots. That's about it.

EDIT: Oh, and how many "homes" does Trump own? How much do they cost?

They mocked him for living with his parents and never having a real job in life until he ran for dog catcher, or w/e his first election was for. Literally voters are the only ones in history to hire him.

And yes, if we aim to put our brightest and best in office, it's likely that means a person who has had at least some success in life, no doubt resulting in some financial gain. That's a far cry from saying, "Hey, lets elect the richest guy in the district to go to Washington."

The point is people considered to be middle class in the UNITED STATES buy homes for 600k all the time. So for him to spend 600k on a home he plans to die in... shouldn't make a bit of fucking difference and definitely shouldn't make headlines.

The only reason it does is because stupid mother fuckers still think democratic socialism is the same as communism, it isn't.

It definitely doesn't make him a sell out, nor does invalidate his campaign or what he stood for, which is what this post and this article are trying to do. "Look see hes a capitalist, he doesn't care about the little people at all. What a liar, hes a typical politician!"

My mother isn't wealthy and she has 2 houses one in NJ and one in PA. Just because she saved and invested for it doesn't mean she's taking home millions or doesn't deserve it. Her tax bills alone are more than my mortgage a month but she worked to earn it. Not all people who own multiple homes are raking in the big bucks.
