"Millennials outraged over TV show portraying millennials as outraged"

Millennials outraged over TV show portraying millennials as outraged

    http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...-a7184771.html

A millennial member of a focus group has angrily objected to the contents of a television programme because it portrayed millennials as coddled, easily offended and thin-skinned.

The feedback for CBS’ new comedy series The Great Indoors was recounted by its executive producer Mike Gibbons at a Television Critics Association panel this week and, in further vindication, outraged a millennial member of the press.

“I’m a millennial myself. How are we so coddled, and what about our overly politically correct workplace bothers you?” they asked somewhat stroppily at the panel.

Stephen Fry, who stars in the show as a travel editor who becomes the boss of a group of millennials in the digital department of a magazine, jumped in to say that he believes there is “an element of coddling” in the generation and “an element in which you have it tougher than the generation before.”

“Yeah, no shit” the millennial reporter, not named by Deadline, fired back, before saying she wanted the question answered by Gibbons, not Fry (who noted a previous generation in his family was sent to Auschwitz).

“A great example is how you interrupted my answer,” Gibbons replied.

Another incensed millennial reporter later rhetorically asked: “Do you want millennials to watch your show? Cause you come out here and said ‘Ha, ha, ha, millennials are so sensitive and PC,’”, branding his comments “so negative”.

The Great Indoors co-star Joel McHale interjected that if the show is offending millennials, it is “the best strategy ever”.

It get's a little embarrassing to be a millennial when you have people get offended over a tv-show.

While there are plenty of millennials going about their business just doing life more or less the same as every previous generation, millennial journalists are more or less guaranteed to be an awful bunch of barely employable narcissists.

Honestly as a millenial (at least I think I am .. born 1994) I have to say, seeing SJWs be labelled as "oh its just millenials" while seeing a million other millenials disagree with the SJWs, just makes me think that putting people into categories based on their generation is probably a really dumb idea.

Are all old people completely disconnected with technolgy? Are all people in their 40s living the easy life, bought a house at the age of 18 from their summer jobs wages? Of course not. I find it weird that generalisations are looked upon as a bad thing most of the time, except when it comes to Generations.

Sorry, but, myself and millions of others don't care about this TV show. We also don't burst into tears when a black guy tries to fight a cop and gets shot. We also don't have rich parents that send us to Universities that we turn into baby sitting centres for 20 year olds.

Generalisations generally suck. Who would've thought?

I know this is a meme, but I just want to say its pathetic that this meme even exists. The idea that you have to preface an opinion on Islam, Feminism, Women, Men, Millenials, or whatever, with "Obviously not all <group>"

If its obvious, then why say it? Let the perpetually offended be offended. Feeling the need to throw out "not alls" just emphasises the fact that you're talking to people that are beyond the pale in terms of rationality.

Oh, trust me, I agree completely. The idea that you can't make any generalization without first mentioning that you don't mean literally every person in that group is downright ridiculous and a response to the sort of dipshit that feels the need to contradict generalization by pointing out exceptions. This obstinate insistence on refusing to notice demographic trends is really unhelpful.

I used to be able to laugh at things like this now they just fill me with a sense of loss.

I am starting to wonder what these people could of been if they were just raised right.

I just see them in the same way you observe the red neck family arguing on the side of the road as you drive by. You don't care 45 minutes later. You may laugh at it, you may be annoyed that they're taking a giant shit on their own dignity in public, but regardless, you'll forget about it in about 45 minutes.

What is annoying however is when they start trying to change things in law. Then it goes from amusing or obnoxious, to absolutely infuriating.

It really just means your observation is on target and the protesting party knows it and isn't happy about it.

Also, pretty sure the oversensitive are a component of every generation, and the only difference with this one is social media encouraging people to broadcast their personality and all of its flaws to the public.

I kind of think they represent a primal need some people have for a higher power.

In the past people wanted to control behavior for what they deemed better in the name of god. With the death of religion in the west (It lingers on but in such a tame brow beaten way it isn't a force anymore) people have turned to worshiping the idea of equality.

They represent a emotional need that people have and sadly they tend to prey on the most vulnerable of a society.

Very interesting view point. I hadn't looked at it that way.

Wouldn't be the first show people get upset over. South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy, and others like that. This rage will last and the show will probably end after 9 out of 14 episode season.

Oh god, it's annoying to hear all this bitching about millennials, who fucking wrote the piece, some baby boomer? Who is writing that show? Who is that show run by? Frankly millennials get all this shit about our current world and it's said we complain too much when frankly previous generations have had a huge affect on our present day.

I think this is "low hanging fruit-news". Every generation imagines itself to be better than the ones that come after them, like some circlejerk of sorts. I'm more amused by those people, who think their generation is better.

We are a product of our environment. If you want to know why we are the way we are, look to those who created the environment.

I think they desperately want to be intellectuals, but either find the topics discussed by them boring, or can't grasp them. So instead they try to speak like intellectuals on topics void of any intellect. SJWs can monologue for a solid 10 minutes on the ethics of a poop swastika in a bathroom.

Thats like drawing blood out of stone.

What i'm getting at here, is that for some people, appearing smart is worth more than actually being knowledgeable on a subject.

I mean you can't honestly think 3rd wave feminists care about Women's Rights, yet cower the second you bring up genuine women's rights issues, like those in the 3rd world. Likewise you can't honestly think BLM cares about black people dying, but won't tackle their own communities problems or acknowledge that most black deaths come from other blacks.

Notice how they're all rich college kids too. These people aren't just privileged, they aren't just the 1%. They're the 0.01% of privilege

Some people are offended by stereotypes on TV sitcoms, shows notorious for heavy stereotyping for easy laughs. What else is new?

And baby boomers get offended over homos.

Its almost like splitting people in generation groups is pointless.

This happens to every generation. It doesn't matter if it was the baby boomers, gen x, or millenials...when the bulk get to their early 20s, they become punching bags for the mass media. You'll see the same superficial BS from the mass media starting around 2030 regarding gen z.

I would suggest to never give in to crybabies. Just keep offending them back into the real world.
