Daughter admits to making up rape story to teach dad a lesson

A rape trial dramatically collapsed after a girl admitted she had based false claims against her father on the book Fifty Shades of Grey.

Describing the case in her blog, defence barrister Cathy McCulloch said that her client initially had "absolutely no real defence" against allegations that he had raped his daughter eight times over a six-year period.

However, after learning that the girl's favourite book was E.L. James' erotic bestseller and noticing parts of her police interview which seemed "beyond her years" the defence team speed-read the book and noticed "striking similarities" between the two.

Just seven minutes into cross-examination, the girl admitted she had made up the accusations because she was angry with her strict father and "wanted to teach him a lesson." The jury were then ordered to acquit the defendant.

Ms McCulloch wrote: "His daughter had given a compelling interview to the police and my client had absolutely no real defence other than 'I did not do it.'

"The complainant's interview was going to be really tough to crack. She had described not only what her father had allegedly done, but how her body felt as a result.

"The only odd thing was the use of certain words, phrases and descriptions of how she felt which seemed beyond her years."

She said that during a conference with her client he mentioned that his daughter's favourite book was Fifty Shades of Grey, despite him having "no idea" what the 2011 book, which describes a sadomasochistic romance from the perspective of a young woman, was about.

After another member of her team bought a copy of the novel and noticed strong similarities with the girl's testimony, Ms McCulloch asked for the trial to be adjourned so that she could read the book and incorporate it into her defence.

She wrote: "I started my cross-examination gently to put the complainant at ease. She agreed her father was strict, and that she was really annoyed with him for 'ruining her life.'

"I then went straight to my final question - that she was so angry with her father that she had made this all up.

"She wavered. I raised the striking similarities between her interview and the book. She suddenly broke and said I was absolutely right.

"She had made the whole thing up because she was angry with her father and wanted to teach him a lesson."

According to the "Listen and Believe" crew, that lawyer is suffering from internalized misogyny, That girl's story is in fact true regardless of her admitting she made it up, and we still need to change the legal system in order to raise the number of people getting convicted of rape and sexual assault......

We need a massive crack down on the way rape allegations are handled

First, we need a complete blackout of the suspects identity that is only rescinded upon conviction.

Second, we need to impose harsh automatic and mandatory penalties, both in terms of prison time and financial restitution, on anyone who fabricates false claims of sexual assault.

I realize the third might be a tough sell and in need of some fine tuning but the first two are absolutely doable and absolutely necessary.

The notion that "he had no defence except saying he did not do it" amazes me. He has a defence, and that is the benefit of doubt. Shit needs to be proven before he can be punished.

Perhaps even more importantly, why the hell does the public even need to know such a delicate case such as this? Even if the case had ended in "lack of evidence" or charges were dropped for some other reason, the father would still have a stigma on him for being "that guy that apparently raped his daughter".

No. This girl would have had him put on a sex offenders list. She would have had him receiving death threats. She would have had him lose all his family and friends (those who believed the accusation, and honestly it would be hard not to). What she accused him of is not only child molestation, it's torture and potentially various other crimes.

If I were him, I'd sooner divorce the wife (if it was the only way I could remove myself from the girl's life) than to ever spend another day in the same house as her. Give the girl up for adoption. Fucking little sociopath.
