    Budget build for brother, ~500euro

Hey everyone. After some (very good) feedback from you guys on my own build, which I am very happy with, I was looking for some feedback on a budget build I made for my brother. I have a GTX 750-ti (used for maybe 6 months) which he can use, which I think will work fine for his needs and it means he can spend more on other parts. He'll bring his old HDD for storage.

He's looking to buy a new computer around December and it doesn't have to be a beast, just renewing his 6 year old computer.

    Budget: ~500 euro
    Resolution: 1080p
Games / Settings Desired: Nothing special, prefer most bang for the buck. Not very GPU heavy games.
Any other intensive software or special things you do (Frequent video encoding, 3D modeling, etc): No
    Country: Netherlands
Parts that can be reused: Internal HDD (1tb) and GPU (gtx 750 ti)
Do you need an OS: No
Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc): No

So far I've come up with the build below. I'd like to know if it's something decent or if there are some parts he'd be better off swapping for something else.

    CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor (€176.26 @ Mindfactory)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (€32.20 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-D2V Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (€54.66 @ Mindfactory)
    Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (€46.65 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Storage: Samsung 750 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (€69.99 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Video Card (€0.00)
Case: Fractal Design Define S ATX Mid Tower Case (€76.45 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Power Supply: XFX ProSeries 450W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (€53.94 @ Mindfactory)
    Total: €510.15

That i5, ssd, ddr and motherboard are ancient history by now. Assuming he isn't overclocking:

He doesn't really need 2x8 gigs of ram, he can get 1x8 gig dimm stick for now and get another one later to save some money (~38 euros). Also, you can get another case if he doesn't like having a meme case, he will spend roughly the same money.

i5 6400 is cheaper by €20 than i6500 and difference is seriously not worth that, especially with that budget. It will be at max 2-3fps in most cases. And i would take that and put it in better than 430 or 450W power supply, which will come handy in case of changing gpu in future

The 6500 should be about 9% faster, and is definitely worth those €20, you're probably confusing it with the 6600/6500 pairing. As for a "better" PSU, the XFX 450W should be able to run a GTX 1080 when paired with an overclocked i5 6600k, so I don't quite see why anything "better" would be needed.

it is possible to make quite a punchy pc for about 500e/$

it'll only manage mid detail on most demanding games though and a copy of win 10 is gunna take a bite out of the budget.

playing with the part picker is fun but it always comes down to 'if only i had an extra $50 i could get something better for that slot'.

I don't think your gunna get a super amazing cpu but that one has great single core performance and the rx 460 470 and 480 gpus are better than a 750ti by a noticable margin.

Hadn't even realised a Skylake build was within range of this budget, so thanks for that tip! Especially when going with the stock cooler there's no price difference. Indeed he doesn't plan to overclock so the cooler isn't needed. Think I'll advice him to go with the 6500

I think for now 8gb of ram should be enough, but probably going with a single dimm of 8gb would be a better idea than two of 4 each, to make it easier to upgrade at a later point.

    Thanks again guys

Edit: think the GPU is indeed one of the first things that will be replaced. I just took it because it's currently collecting dust and it gave him at least something to spend a bit more on the other components.

The 750 Ti is still a pretty decent bang for your buck right now, it should be able to run WoW at 1080p at roughly 45-50 fps with ~high settings. I suggest keeping it for a little while longer until he really needs a newer one. That is, unless he wants to play the newer FPS titles at good settings.
