Not going to excuse her statements, but I can imagine the psychological pressure she experiences working as an actress in an industry that is obsessed with youth and looks. Hollywood is full of beautiful people and she is average looking at best.

Honestly in that sort of environment I would probably be deeply insecure, too. I don't think I'd be irrational enough to scream "MISOGYNY" if a guy said he wasn't attracted to me, but I can see how her below average to average looks would cause some psychological issues when working in that sort of industry.

Tangential story, right after undergrad I interviewed for an accounting position for a small start-up on the West side of Chicago. It was in a really crappy part of town and I had to step over a homeless guy in order to get into the front door of the office building. I step inside and everyone looks like a supermodel, it was WEIRD. And the CFO was like 28 and had worked for a Big Four accounting firm before co-founding the startup, lol.

Needless to say I did not get the job, I'm not unfashionable or overweight but next to these people (who literally looked like they stepped out of a magazine) I felt like an Oompa Loompa.

Probably the most surreal experience of my entire career, I sortof imagine it is what working in Hollywood must be like.

Yep I agree. I'm not a fan of Lena Dunham. I mean I never was, but especially after I found out she wasn't paying her opening acts on her book tour. I have a lot of friends who are artists and they are always being asked to work for free; when someone like Lena Dunham can clearly afford to pay fellow artists a reasonable wage, but doesn't, that tells me all I really need to know about that person.

Also I found the whole "I molested my sister" thing weird (although I can't recall if she actually molested her sister or she just let her sit on her lap a lot, not sure of the details). Seriously messed up/creepy if she actually molested her, though. And wrote about it.
