I'm pretty certain there are people that dislike him just as much as I do (no need to go into detail there), but it seems the vast majority of people have at least some faith in his insight on gaming media.
I just want to know why.

I mean, a moderator will probably not like this but as for why I dislike him...
He's SUCH a SJW (understatement) and the fact it dictates what he thinks of a game over anything else (including gameplay) reminds me of Kotaku, and his incessant complaining and overwhelming negativity bears an uncanny resemblance to Darksydephil. I mean he never says anything positive about a game as I've observed for a long time unless it's some pretentious walking simulator like Gone Home. His antics on videos that I also can't last through for very long is so cringe and tryhard like Angryjoe.
It's hard to avoid him because of the attention he gets in news coverage so I think it's fair to just spit out why I really am not fond of him and why people can bear with him.
He's a mostly knowledgeable and straight-talking games journalist/pundit, with a lot a credibility as an independent voice since he's privately funded and isn't tied to any big websites or corporations. Years of experience in the industry, generally intelligent and well-reasoned discourse, and a level head when it comes to looking at most topics. His style of content, sense of humour, and tendency to poke fun at the hornet's nest of the internet may not be to everyone's tastes, but as far as commentators on the gaming industry go he's probably one of the better ones out there.
idk he has TONS of videos where he talks about something positive
but a game like slaughtering grounds, what do you want him to say "positive"
"man i sure do love his use of horribly cropped blood from google search!"
also hes not just a critic, hes a entertainer, like angry joe, if they were critics it would be a simple review, but they have jokes, skits, and have a persona... do you really think jim believes "thank god for me" and that he is the best being in the universe? god no, its a persona he puts on... like god danm... i have never seen a fat man pull off black and red well at all... but well when hes holding the penetrator (saints row ftw) lol
so of corse in their video they are gunna inflate the bad, and skip over some of the good, but their rating is still the same
a perfect example of this is jontrons video on star wars kinect
he makes this huge point of the video him trying to navigate the menu by swiping the screen, and makes a huge point of "WTF XBOX, WOW THE KINECT IS BULLSHIT WTF, THE MENU IS THE HARDEST PART TO USE!!!" well in the rest of the video he uses the menu perfectly cause he hovers over the arrows to change options, instead of trying to swipe... and he navigates the menu insanely easy
Here ya go, but all critics who do it for fun as for example
https://youtu.be/9J5mkoCiuzs?t=2m14s
notice how before he gets onto the point he uses it fine, he starts making the joke and suddenly cant get the menu to work, then AS SOON as he puts the controllers on screen and ends the joke, he starts using the menu perfectly fine again...
Because people that like to be negative assholes, tend to gravitate to "celebrities" that share their opinion.
Confirmation Bias at work.
so you cant judge a game based on anything other then gameplay?
Graphics are horrible? nope 10/10
Story is horrid? fuck you 10/10
Sound is nothing but a baby crying for 8 hours? Hm? nope 10/10
Controls are literally pointless, its on autopilot, you cant move your char at all? 10/10 who needs controls
Gameplay is really good? 10 OUTTA 10, GAME OF THE CENTURY PEOPLE!

People have different preferences when it comes to gaming. Certain games are heavily gameplay focused, others might be more narratively driven, some have fantastic art and sound design that props up the rest of the experience. Like any critic, he has his preferences, and the people who find his critique useful are probably the ones that share those preferences.
It sounds as though you just don't enjoy his personality or share his preferences when it comes to video games.
He exclusively goes after low hanging fruit and only spews forced tirades for hits. Never any creativity, never anything original, you can always predict his benign outrage each week from glancing at /r/games.
Also, yes, he's a super SJW and a very literal cuck, but unlike some I don't really care what he does with his private life. I just think his videos are shit, like every other OUTRAGE GAMER tends to be
I don't think you know what the two bolded words means.
But if some chance you do please provide the video proof showing it.
Also how does calling people out on there bullshit make him SJW? Its fine to disagree with a person but the childish insults just makes you look weak.

Absolutely not. As an avid consumer of Sterling's content, I have never seen an instance of his 'SJWness' 'dictate' what he thinks of a game. Would you care to share an instance of this occurring? Because I certainly can't come up with one.
Entirely? No. Would you care to provide an instance of him 'slamming' a game 'entirely' based on non-gameplay? I can't think of a single instance of this happening.
Wondercrab has eloquently described my feelings on the matter; it seems like you don't enjoy Jim Sterling, which is perfectly fine. However, I don't find this to be a reasonable reason as to distrust the man.
He seems trustworthy, and some of his videos can be fun to watch. Good enough for me.
