Well Trump just flat out lies far more often. Clinton is a typical (non-republican) politician and that means trying to not lie if it can be helped. Put forward stats only from one side - yes. Mislead - yes. But flat out lie in a way that can be easily caught - no - or at least do it as least as possible.

This is why Clinton will be called out rarely if at all for lying, while for Trump its going to be lots of times, or at least enough times to the point where it sinks in that he can't get away with it and so stops.

yeah but when has that ever mattered to people? if their candidate got called out a lot more than the other, they won't be happy, no matter how stupid it makes them look.

im not saying they shouldn't have fact checkers, just saying whats likely to happen imo

Yeah that'll be what happens. They will be mad as hell and it won't affect how they, his die hard supporters feel about him, but it'll kill his standing among moderates and swing voters. That's why the debates are so important.

So Trump being called out on his lies won't move his supporters but what about independents? They're what matters and seeing Trump or Hillary bomb could motivate them to pick a side. It mattered with Romney 47% comments and his constant flip flopping just like people on her care about Hillary changing positions.

like alex said, die hard supporters of either candidate probably wont be swayed much, if at all by debates, its the ones on the fence that debates are for

I know so why does it matter, if Trump supporters bury themselves deeply in their own bullshit. It just hurts them and the debates might sway moderates. I mean both sides have complained about everything from media coverage to fact checking since the presidential race started.

Nah, but seriously, either of the two is bad for the US, bad for the World and bad all around. Might as well have the craziest of the two, lean back and watch the fireworks.

Think Trump will stomp that corpse into a goo on the floor.

Guys the deal is sealed, if Hillary walks into the elections and is not replaced, she will lose. She cant even stand straight shes so frail.
But people shouldnt rest assured that Trump will do what he says. I would rather have a true far right president than Trump, so people should push Trump to build that wall and not let any illegal mexican or any muslim into the US. I would prefer if he wouldnt let any muslim or mexican at all though.

I'm not sure why people feel the debates will be super one sided. I can't help but imagine both candidates have a strategy going into it as well as a fair amount of prep work on how to handle the attacks on the others.

Clinton will need to appear calm, strong, and not have anything hinting on a health issue.

Trump will need to avoid lying as best he can, especially if the moderators actually fact check.

I suspect there will be a lot of petty back and forth -- it'll remain to be seen if Clinton decides to take the high road and stick to policy and what Trump has said in the past (and his flip flopping) or if she'll also take a few digs.

Will Trump bring up Bill's affairs? Will Clinton bring up Trump's? Will either candidate lose their composure?

Either way, depending on how the moderators run the debates Trump could be at a real disadvantage if he tries to keep lying and if he avoids policy details. Clinton, if nothing else, has detailed policy positions and she could easily make herself look like the better suited candidate if Trump decides to just try to do an insult laden smear campaign.

Of course if Trump can get under Hillary's skin and make her lash out he could easy control the tone of the debate -- and if he can keep it personal he'll win that hands down.

    Presidential Debate Odds

Which candidate will get a bigger bump in the Quinnipiac poll that directly follows the debate

    Trump: 10/11

    Clinton: 11/10

Clinton is the more experienced (and better) debater. But Quinnipiac polls have been under fire for allegedly over-sampling white voters. Slight edge to Trump.

Odds a Trump protester disrupts the debate: 9/1

Odds a Trump supporter disrupts the debate: 8/1

Odds that Clinton retires or withdraws from the debate before its scheduled end: 22/1

    Bathroom breaks don’t count.

Odds San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is mentioned during the debate: 1/1

Surely the nation wants to know where the candidates stand on protesting during the anthem. Kaepernick started the trend, but it’s become ubiquitous enough that he doesn’t need to be mentioned by name.

Odds of which candidate Lester Holt fact-checks more during the debate

    Trump: 1/4

    Clinton: 4/1

This is a bone of contention for the Clinton camp, which points to Trump’s almost constant misstatements and exaggerations. Clinton is hoping that Holt calls out Trump early and often.

Odds that Trump complains about the fairness of moderator Lester Holt during or following the debate: 2/1

Voters aren’t hungry for sour grapes. Even Trump knows that now.

Odds Trump brings up Clinton’s health/stamina during the debate: 1/7

Odds Clinton brings up Trump’s alleged ties to Russia during the debate: 1/3

Odds Trump brings up Bill Clinton’s infidelities during the debate: 6/1

Odds the word “Skittles” is used during the debate (by a candidate or moderator): 3/1

Odds of which Clinton scandal/issue Trump refers to most often during the debate

    Email server: 2/1

    Clinton Foundation: 3/1

    Benghazi: 4/1

    Health: 4/1

Odds of which Trump scandal/issue Clinton refers to most often during the debate

    Bankruptcies: 2/1

    Tax returns: 2/1

    Trump Foundation: 6/1

    Trump University: 6/1

Last spring the Clinton camp reported that it planned to attack Trump’s business acumen, but so far there have been few direct hits. Now could be the time for a salvo.

Odds on the color of Donald Trump’s tie

    Red: 9/5

    Blue: 2/1

    Green: 5/1

    Yellow: 7/1

    FIELD (including striped): 20/1

Odds on the color of Hillary Clinton’s pantsuit

    Blue: 3/1 25

    Black: 4/1 20

    White: 5/1 16

    Multi-colored: 7/1

    Red: 16/1

    FIELD: 4/1

So if the moderators close this thread, are we going to discuss the debate in the Hillary thread, or in the Trump thread, or should we just spam the shit out of both of them?

they would properly prefer we split it between both threads so that no actual discussion can take place

Donny boy is going to stand no chance. His incoherent rambling won't fly in a presidential debate

I expect nothing to be answered by either candidate with a lot of false claims from each about what they did while bring up a lot of real claims about all the bad stuff the other one did. In the end I expect the American public will learn nothing new from this debate and the declared winner will likely be the one to post the most zingers.

Hi, I am not from the U.S.

Just wondering if those of you who are U.S. citizens about this :

Which candidate is likely to start a future war (whether on purpose or not)

I ask this because of the current sensitive religious issues world wide.

Terrorism of such nature has always been prevalent from that particular religion. However of recent years it seems to have gotten out of control.

I know this may seem like an exxagerated concern from me, but please understand that the country that I am from is SURROUNDED by muslim countries.

    1 - I don't really want to die
2 - I don't really want to kill anyone, war or no war. (because all able bodied men in my country are also conscripted).

    Thanks!
