I no longer feel any interest for consoles games-despite buying consoles

When I was in the equivalent of college, I had a PS2, and I presumably played way too much on it-and the 4-5 games I was able to buy during the entire run of the console

Now, without bragging, I'm sort of being able to buy every game I want (1)-but they keep piling up, because I lack the time to play them...ant the motivation most of the time. It reach ludicruous levels-I bought an X-one last year, bought 4 games on it, and I think I might have clocked 12 hours overall in 12 months. (2) I have a 3DS that I might dust off one time per month-and despite being terribly disapointed with the three different FF XIII, I'm considering buying a PS4 for FFXV...

Yes, thank you for pointing out that I'm a fool with too much money (altough as said a few hundred dollars per year wasted is not that hard to imagine when you hate movies theaters, sports, concerts, trips abroad and have no social life) : that's the point and I'm consccious of it , I'm just asking if other people are that disenchanted with modern consoles.

(1)This is not really bragging, as few hundred dollars per year is not that hard to find when you have zero social life.

(2)The fact that I like Western RPGs available on consoles, strategy games, and of course WOW, is not helping there.

I get like this with gaming in general sometimes. For me it has to do with having too many games to play at any given time and feeling like you HAVE to play something which in turn makes me not want to play anything. I find it helps to either take a break altogether or find a dumb palette cleanser game to play.

When you spend all your spare time playing games it is not all that out of the ordinary to get burnt out on them. I have gone weeks without playing anything at all before.

I bought a XB1 just for gears of war 4 so don't feel bad.

I have bought SOOOO many games and all I play is WoW. Its just a case of being burned out, take a break from games for awhile.

I feel the same way. Bought a PS4 at launch and in the 3 years i've had it i only played Bloodborne and Uncharted 4. The first 2 years it was almost entirely useless and pretty much a glorified netflix-machine, and while i absolutely loved Bloodborne i could've just borrowed a ps4 to play through it.

I threw my PS4 away about three or four months ago. Prior to that i hadnt turned it on in a month, and even then it was to watch a bluray disc on the tv in my work-out room. I just watch netflix/youtube vids while i work out nowadays. I owned the system for years and literally used it for a total of maybe 30 hours. I dont think im ever going to purchase another console. Nothing consoles have done in the past 10 years has come even remotely close to what steam offers me in terms of gameplay or entertainment.

I'm not disenchanted with modern consoles, but I do get what you're saying.

Personally, I bought a PS4 solely because of Bloodborne and I was not disappointed. My collection of games played on the PS4 since then is actually fairly small, and usually if I get something on the console vs. the PC its because I either want to play it on the big screen TV OR I don't trust the PC release at the moment.

So really its less of being disenchanted and more of preferring the PC over the console experience.

    I also have that problem.
With age i no longer have motivation to sit down and play a game on TV.
I don't dont know why but i quickly lose interest as soon as i sit down.

The only game that can keep me sited for more than a hour is Tekken 6 because i am a huge "fightem-up" addicted person.

My situation is so bad that the only way for me to play a videogame is if it is a "hand-held" version of it.
So now i am playing Dragon Quest VII for the N3DS and i already bought online Dragon Quest IX.

I don't know why but i can only play hand-held games. TV makes no sense to me anymore...unless is a fightem up online game.
I will buy PS4 only for Tekken 7 and Shemue III.

I like Nintendo stuff because it has unique games.

    Also, I like Monster Hunter.

I almost bought a PS4 only to play remastered Last of Us which I had already played through twice on PS3. By the time I got around to actually giving it serious thought they announced the new consoles. There isn't much reason to play consoles for me. The only games I ever played because of console was Last of Us because that was only option and Call of Duty back before I got sick of them.

I also get this with gaming, I have too much interests and too little time for them. And there is so much new games that I would like to try, now that I got a new job and have little "extra" cash .

The last game I completed was Furi and that was in July. Of course I have been playing WoW since August, but I haven't really been playing that much since Emerald Nightmare released.

Sometimes you just grow tired of a hobby. Find other things to do and you'll eventually find that drive to play again. It happens to me all the time.

When I realized I didn't have time to play all the games is when I became more interested in collecting older games. If I can't play them all, I can curate my own little museum at least.

Current games are slightly different than older game, mostly. Now obviously graphics are more "realistic", and there is games supposed to entertain very quickly. Maybe you prefer older games.

Personally I have a mindset where I want to discover things, and I find it passioning to discover new games (old and new), assuming the game is GOOD. Seeing the art provided by the artist, the composer, collect things in games I like, having entertainment. At the end I put a rating on it in a review website (a french website) and it adds to the feeling of collection/discovery.

So I'm far from loosing interest to console games, you have to find the right game, lately there is just too many games, or a lot, and consequently there's also a lot of uninteresting games that can make you think every games are uninteresting or meant to have fun for an hour or two and forget it. This is not "real" video games.

Best advice I guess is don't force yourself, just do what you enjoy, maybe try reading review on games you actually own and you'll absolutely want to beat it.

Though keep your money, you don't even know if FFXV will be what you're looking for :P by the look of it I really have a FFXIII feel in it, with a bit of FFVIII which is exactly why I'm slightly curious, but I would not buy it blindly.

In my opinion better play AND collect the best of the best : P I suppose there will always be like 30 games that you find are the best games, you know ... RE4, Zelda, Mario 64/Galaxy, Metal Gear Solid, Metroid Prime, Naughty dog games, childhood games, all that stuff

I'm still playing them. Cleared out a number of PS3 games from the ol' backlog this year, hoping to knock out more before year's end, but playing Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4 right now.

I'm not going for a complete library on any system like some do, but more of a "best of" and "Top xx" collection. So in theory, maybe some day I could clear the whole backlog of having played every one of them (those Atari and NES games, though, I doubt will ever be a 100% "beat the game" scenario, of course).

Some games I don't care for as much, but I have them in my library because of historical and industry impact. Never been an FPS player, but can't deny what games like CoD and Halo did for pushing console gaming from couch multiplayer to online.

I'm also including games that are notoriously infamous. E.T. on Atari and Superman on N64 for example. Mwahaha.

Re: FFXV, it makes sense for a XIII flavor to still be present since it started life as XIII Versus. It was supposed to be the last game in the Crystalus Novus mythology trilogy (being Type-0, XIII, and XIII Versus) before XII and FF7 PS3 tech demo through things all out of whack and XIII became its own trilogy to expand on recovering costs and cashing in on Lightning.

Why not just get it on PC?

I like owning hardcopy's of games and it gives me a another reason to get a XB1. There is a few games on there I need to play or go back and play again.

Also the pvp element of GoW4 isn't cross-platform and I have a feeling it will be dead on PC.

Consoles are just cheaply made underpowered PC's using outdated technology. They have no purpose in an age where custom built PC's are king for hardcore gaming and Smartphones are better for the more casual audience.

Build me a $300 PC that can equal the performance of a ps4 or a $400 PC that can equal the performance of a Ps4 Pro. Consoles will always have a place as long as they are cheap because PC's can't beat them at there price. That is a simple fact.

If you go the used system route then that $300 ps4 is now $225 and there is no $225 PC that beats the ps4.
