Noob Spriest requesting your assistance with logs

    Hello,

I'm new to Shadow Priests, i'm maining a Druid and the priest is just an alt i've been playing on.
Recently i got the legendary belt on my priest and i've seen that is considered the best in slot legendary for shadow spec.
Since it's just an alt, I haven't been paying much attention to my dps since i'm only doing EN N/HC with it.
Yesterday we got a new Spriest in our guild and from last night alt run EN N I feel like i'm underperforming a lot.

On Nynthendra N, I feel like it was a good fight, S2M dropped just as the boss died, could've stayed maybe 10 more seconds in.
I've never went past 90s in Voidform in a raid, think I might do something wrong.
I know I don't have hidden satyr and haven't used Deadly Grace.

Edit: I'm Varlaana, and my guildie is Shadowblast

    Here are the logs:

Your damage IS s2m as a shadow priest.

You need to hold on on your void torrent once you see that the boss is going to die in approx 2 min. Refresh your dot, cast S2M, void eruption, void torrent, void bolt, dispersion, void bolt, mind blast, void bolt and so forth until you reach 70 stack and you use PI; then second dispersion.

Therefore, in theory, you should have used STM when you used your second void torrent, or shortly after.

For a short comparison in between shadowblast (which failed hard and didn't maintain SWP the whole fight btw) and you during STM:

    Damage done during S2M: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports...cebuffs=193223

As you can see his damage start to scale up way sooner than yours. The dip in damage at the end is a personal fail on his side where his SW:P was not refreshed.

Void torrent cast, where Shadowblast does as stated above.

I'd suggest that you do some training on the WoD garrison dummies. Just do a STM session, join an arena, leave and do it again until you reach acceptable numbers (a consistent 100-110s / roughly 95 stack) on dummy would be a good start.

    Hello,

I'm currently maining a shadow priest myself, but far from mastering the spec and surrender to madness.

^Geroaergaroe already replied very well to this.

Although what I can analyze from your log is that:

    The most crucial part is your S2M timing;

    1. It seems you popped S2M at 2:09, boss hp being at ~35% with only 45 seconds left on the boss, and I'm pretty sure you'd be able to pop it at the same time Shadowblast did, at 1:40 which would keep you in voidform for a whole 30 sec longer during S2M.

Now the tricky part is how to keep it up for a longer period, you did some minor issues which have a severe outcome:

    1. Make sure you have VoiT for the very beginning of S2M, so that you can reach the second VoiT at around 70 stacks. How you could have done that this fight is by popping VoiT in the first Voidform and then saving the second until S2M. The key is kind of to use it on CD inside Madness so that you can reach 3 VoiT, if you use dispersion correctly.

    2. You used PI only once this fight, even though you pop it at approx 00:30, which means you would have had it up at 2:30, which is kinda the crucial part of your S2M and you might need it at ~70 stacks to keep up.

    3. You used Shadowfiend a few seconds too late at start so you had it off CD just about the time the boss/you died - this also helps keeping Voidform up in the end.

This of course varies from boss to boss and takes time learning how long it takes your guild to kill a boss, knowing when to pop what making sure you have the CDS for madness.

And lastly, potions and enchants help ofcourse, although being the minor part of the equation here.

Like Geroaergaroe says, practicing on dummies really help you get the hang of it.

Thank you for quick response. I will get going with the dummy training then.
Gonna play with some lower ilvl haste/crit gear to get rid of some of that mastery.

Is there any addon that tells you based on current dps how long the fight will last? Or should I just see "feel it"?
I usually S2M at around 40% boss health if dps is high enough, if not, i go at ~35% boss health.

I gotta learn to use dispersion in my rotation, I'm not used to it.
Last week on HC I did a bit better with my S2M.

I dont think SI is better than AS even with the legendary belt. It increases your damage outside S2M, but is a big risk inside of surrender. It makes getting to third void torrent pretty RNG. Id recommend swapping to AS before practicing Surrender

Regarding your gear, it's fine. You should have around 9k5 haste, 9k crit and the rest in mastery. More haste is QOL.

Regarding the addon, below is a WA string that should suit you.
