That's because people lump jobs losses from technology with China, things like self driving cars, amazon go, kiosk for fast foods and stores, artificial intelligence, IBM's Watson will displace millions more jobs. Politicians like to focus on China because it simplifies a far more complex problem, I am afraid by the time politicians get their act together it will be too late.

That is a bad analogy since the South still operates within the federal government and does have their own president...much like Taiwan. However if the south wanted to secede ... then go ahead.

If I was being extremely charitable I'd say he probably thinks he can cause domestic problems for China by questioning or undermining their authority.

There's like zero world in which China gives up on Taiwan. Their entire legitimacy as a government in the eyes of their people is based in standing up to foreign powers. A failure to do so was a major factor in the Republic of China's demise.
