Fun rating of frost DK is around 7460 on FunSim
If I understand his quote correctly, he meant he has yet to see a DK out-DPSing everyone. Right now, DKs are in the middle pack. Maybe even decent in m+, but not enough to be in the top if everyone know how to play their classes correctly + same ilvl gear.
Tbh, I don't really mind. Both specs are fine in m+. Maybe we could do something for this overcapping unholy RP's bar...
frost is a lot of fun! world content and leveling is a blast, as your abilities feel so impactful. in raid and dungeon content: you have a grest spead of ST amd AOE abilities, and heaps of different builds and stat dostributions to play your prefered way. you also have just enough "ranged" abilites to make movement heavy mechanics bearable, and dinally AMS trivializes so many mechanics as you get higher gear that you can actually just wnjoy playing the game
Well, the only downside of levelling as BDK is that you kill mobs slowly, but there's virtually nothing that can kill you, and fighting mobs 1v1 is pointless, just aggro as many mobs as you need, drop D&D, and mow them, it'll take some time though...
I levelled as UDK, sorta same tactics, but everything dies nearly instantaneously, cuz unholy has quite good AoE, and don't forget to selfheal w/ DS Can't say anything about levelling as FDK though, when I was levelling, frost wasn't viable, and I don't like frost anyway T_T
Levelling as unholy just run around like a headless chicken dot as much as you can spam epidrmic finish mobs off with death strikes if health is dropping.
If you're using unholy, just spam deathstrike instead of Death Coil. You probably didn't get Scourge of World's trait yet, so don't bother hitting them with DC since they hit like crap and you have less chance of runic corruption's procs.
Try to not make a bad habit though. Later on, when you feel confident with your group healing you, and when you have the trait, you can start using DC more often even if your Runic Power's bar get easily filled.
By the way, there are no broken specs. In fact, I'd say Unholy is the only one to be broken because of how RP works. At high lvl, you simply won't be able to prevent the full RP's bar.
You can easily play all 3 specs just fine while leveling. They're all good. I even played Frost back when they didn't get the buff. Now that frost is buffed, there are a lot of people playing it. In fact, it's probably the best spec DPS-wise if you don't have any bracers legendaries.

I would love if they had taken wod unholy, made unholy blight and necrotic plague baseline and then tweak talents here and there... BUT NOOOO, they had to remake the spec into this... thing that it is now, where you don't interact with your disease AT ALL(only form of interaction lies in epidemic if you want to consider it), and all the interaction you have with your pet is a 1 min cd, other than that you just forget the guy even exists(not that we ever had much interaction with it, but still).
Frost has never felt compelling enough to play, as said before anyone can figure out how to play it in 10 or so minutes, and that's it, there is not much depth or something to really keep you compelled about frost, it has always been way too bland, which is okish since frost was always supposed to play the easy spec.
Yeah dot interaction really is lacking for unhoky.
I keep taking epidemuc from time to time, just to remind myself its there and if im going to do shit dps anyway, who cares about a free rune for every 6 wounds popped?
* Unhoky was a mistype in my mobile but its now my faviurite term of the week. Its a keeper
I play frost and I love it.
Its kinda easy to get into and overall the spec is easy to play but there are alot of small kinks that you need to perfect to actually do more then "ok" damage. First and foremost, when you have good gear you almost never ever have any downtime. Always a button to press, this in combination with proccbased rotation makes snap-decisions the big thing with the spec.
What to use the next global CD on, combine this with trying to have low rune-count, high-RP but still dump RP just before most runes get online again etc. and the absolute high-end of the specs require kind of alot from the player.
But the core rotation is easy and this helps as soon as there is some stressfull parts of a fights. Your doing decent damage even thou your not paying attention to the core rotation as much.
AND the aoe is great.
Also BIG DRAGON KLICKY KLICKY SKILL
i like frost because my main ability is called Obliterate
Unholy is decently fun to me, except for the low mobility.
Frost feels boring and clunky, with annoying rng based moments of ending up resource starved.
For me unholy is fun but very RNG and is poor compared with frost. Unless you have bracers but they are getting a nerf soon so unholy will still be the lesser spec.
Frost is boring though but decent dmg... you'll have an easier time getting into m+ groups as Frost.
I've leveled up 9 110 so far (yup ive been ill for 3 months so this is what i get to do i guess). I ahvent played rogue (hate energy combo system) Pala and Priest (dont like the holy lare I guess).
And if I had to choose the most fun melee I'd say DK. Both unholy and frost. Frost is easier spec and Unholy more interesting in my opinion. But both are superfun. I guess Enhancemente shaman will also be tier 1. But DK is definetly tier 1 in FUN for mele. If I had to go for a mele it will be one of those two, good visuals, fun gameplay, nice lore, good DPS numbers. All well
This depends heavily on what's fun for you.
I'm playing FDK as an alt a lot lately and to be honest, I just wish I had enough time to have 2 mains. My main is a DH and I love the way it plays but the RNG of demon blades and how fickle crit classes can be has me enjoying frost a lot because even tho frost is a Crit class, things like Killing Machine make it more bearable and who doesn't love a good Obliterate. I'm pretty sure my AK level and the fact that my DH weapon has 35 points is the only thing keeping it safe from being taken over as a main.
Btw I was messing with my warlock and it's pretty funny when you notice that a single spec from warlock has far more to do with death than all three of the DEATH knights specs put together. Just wanted to leave this here.
Yes, Frost is fast, proccy, and reactive. I find it to be a ton of fun.
