If the scrap was huge, I'd file a police report and an insurance claim. And yes, most people don't jump to physical violence in these types of situations, that's pretty much a part of being an adult.

I think the thing is, if someone steps on your shoes.... realistically, they aren't going to get damaged. Unless they are really old and falling apart already. If the shoe gets dirty, you can just clean it off.

They get dirtied and if someone steps on the shoe it gets a bit worn out. Not to mention there is the disrespect of it as well. You could see why it could get someone punched in some parts of town.
