Nukes are the best deterrence weapons we have currently, and are rapidly aging beyond sustainable levels tech wise. My point is we have been told we were on the brink of nuclear war since before I was born. Yet, here we are without it ever having happened.

Nope. USA still uses 30 yr old nuclear subs and 30 yr old planes to drop nukes. We are about 20 yrs behind Russia in Nuclear arms technology. Russia has the S-400 and new S-500 specifically to track and intercept multiple ICBM's or Cruise missiles. Russia's new Sarmat aka Satan 2 can penetrate any missile defense shield on the planet and the US knows this. Russia also has Perimiter aka "The Dead Mans Hand" which guarantees even if the Russian command is taken out all Nukes will be launched regardless. This being said nobodys gonna shoot nukes at eachother.

As someone who spent 6 years in a Marine Corp special forces unit, quality can only overcome certain instances. If your unit of 50 faces an army of 200 the odds are not in your favor no matter how much training you have. Yes we are better trained. Yes we have superior tactics, well superior to all those we have faced to this point. But we have also been training Russian soldiers for decades so to say that we are so much better isn't as big a difference as most would think.

We would win at sea, we may even win in the air, but the ground would be a whole nother story. It would be the greatest loss of life the world has ever known.

I am fine with updating our logistics systems I am just saying we don't need to increase our payload from say 5k to 10k. We already have enough to blow ourselves up 5 times over. Instead of buying new nukes use that capital in modernizing our logistic systems so we can move away from those floppy disks.

I assume our military leaders are starter than to attack Russia head-on because they do have superior Mobile Armor/Artillery. The funny thing is unless the Russians have air superiority that point is moot if the United States can just call in strategically placed air strikes on these high priority targets.
