Poll: Do you like Windows 10?

  1. #1

Question Win 10: Your experience and worth the upgrade?

I am just interested to hear some opinions on Windows 10 and how the upgrade went and maybe some advice.

I have been a long time user of Windows 7 and so far I have had no reason to conisder upgrading until now.

I want to use the chatpad with my wireless xbox one pad for playing games which benefit from extra shortcuts, like Witcher 3, Skyrim, etc.

The chatpad is advertised as windows 10 only but I have so far seen no mention of windows 7 compatibility.

As a reuslt I am considering upgrading just so I can use the chatpad, silly I know but I will have to upgrade sooner or later.

I upgraded as soon as windows update said i could, i only had issues with a non responsive start menu but that was over a year ago now im sure that issue has been worked out. As someone who uses a hard drive still windows 10 is great, it starts up easily 5x faster than windows 7 did.

going from win7 to win10 on the same "high-end" pc i noticed no difference. cept for the obviously UI differences ofc.
as i don't own an xbox and chatpad is designed for win10 isn't it likely its able to be plugged on pc? you might test it on some win7 pc, or a friend with xbox?

On a low end PC, (mine is prebuilt from like 2009), it sucks as it gets older because the RAM and disk space go crazy if you try to use too many things. Too many Windows processes. But that happens on Windows 7 and even Linux too so...

There are some UI changes but I like it better than 7. Just upgrade already.

On most of my PCs I noticed no difference whatsoever over Win7 or 8.
On one of my laptops I had to remove it and went back to win 8 as I had massive performance problems after a while, the system got very hot. I also have tried a clean install of windows 10 but it didn't help.
Overall I feel pretty indifferent over the upgrade.

I experienced tons of blue deaths in win10 (1/hour). Then, after some months it gone with a patch. Now there is a new patch and they are back.
Also its annoying that you cant decide whether/when do you want to install a patch. There was 2-3 times when i turned off my computer because we were about to go to cinema/etc, and it decided to install something, saying "don't dare turn off the computer, or else!"

Going from 7 to 10 on the same system I noticed a major difference. My computer boots up in half the time, nothing crashes anymore, and everything just seems to run smoother. But I'm also on an HDD and not SSD.

I never bothered with 8, and originally planned on sticking to 7 until the bitter end. Circumstances unfortunately forced me to upgrade, but I'm glad I did when it was free - this is the best OS Micro$oft has spat out in a long time.

Built a new PC a few months ago. Switched from 7 to 10 in the process. Things went smooth.

Chances are if you're asking this question it won't bother you.

Generally only things you have to worry about upgrading on on older PCs with lots of random applications, PCs that aren't very well "cleaned" per say IE you have old files just sitting around. Laptops tend to have some issues sometimes. But 9/10 you won't notice any big issues. If you have any super important files I'd suggest finding a solution to keep them backed up.

I upgraded to windows 10 when I got my new SSD (not to mention the first time I have ever bought a OS) I do recommend Classic Shell to make it look like windows 7, I hate tiles with a passion. I Did not have any problems with any of the programs I use either.

Its quick and responsive, the only real issue I have with W10 is the amount of snooping and data that MS like to collect. Its a huge amount compared to W7 and is well documented. I too didn't really want to switch from 7, but 10 is easily customized to suit your set up liking and I haven't had any major issues since changing 6 months ago.

Thanks for all the replies, Windows 7 has been solid so the upgrade never seemed worth it.

I really dont have any issues with my pc or windows 7 and it is this kind of scenario that puts me off cos if it aint broke, why fix it.

I already have the classic shell installer and a few other things, I will probably install it tonight after making some backups.

I read quite a bit about that and it is another element which put me off for so long. I figure NSA and GCHQ have my habbits recorded already so what the hell.

I've not really had any issues since switching from 7 to 10. I keep hearing horror stories from friends but, said friends likely have something else causing the problem and just blame Windows 10 because, reasons.

I upgraded on the last day that is was free. Windows 10 for me is fine once I removed most of the useless shit that it tries to force you to use. Still annoyed I cant seem to completely remove some stuff like the windows store, cortana and microsoft edge. Im sure there is a way to do it, but im not that knowledgeable about such things.

Depends on your hardware. If your PC is brand new or 1-4 years old you'd be better going with win10. If you're sitting on a potato, stick to win7.
No more time wasted in WoW.. still reading this awesome forum, though
