X-Com is pretty much a genre by itself, you don't really play too many games in that same vein.
I'm willing to bet this Mario/Rabbids project doesn't do as well as Nintendo is hoping. It's a genre that's pretty niche, along the lines of Advanced Wars when it was a thing for Nintendo. It'll probably be a fun game for people that enjoy that strategic game style, but the mass appeal definitely won't be there.

In the grand scheme of things, outside of the handheld market Nintendo has not been relevant since the original Wii came out. They have also fallen on their faces repeatedly at E3. Hoping Nintendo announces a blockbuster ( Pokemon MMO please, why is this not a thing ) but not really expecting much from them.
