Glenn Greenwald: CIA spouts 'PROPAGANDA' & 'is at WAR with Trump'

Glenn Greenwald, who is most famously known for revealing top-secret US and British Government intelligence from whistleblower Ed Snowden, roasted US intelligence agencies for launching a witch-hunt against the President-elect based on a dossier which he labelled “farcical”.

Former MI6 spy Christopher Steele is alleged to have compiled a 35-page document that Russia had damning sexual, financial and political information against Donald Trump which has since been released by the media – although the claims are mostly unverified.

Mr Greenwald claimed the CIA were orchestrating the negative media coverage of Donald Trump and suggests they had a vested interest in helping Hillary Clinton become the US President.

The 49-year-old said: “The CIA is an agency that has repeatedly got caught lying in the past, it is designed to disseminate propaganda and they are currently at open-warfare with the person who has just been elected the person of the US, they were behind the Hillary Clinton campaign.

“The mere fact that the CIA tried to inshrine this document in a cloud of authentic or credibility doesn’t, for me as a journalist, doesn’t convince me at all.

“I want to see evidence first to believe that the claims are true.”

Mr Greenwald added that several high-profile CIA had made the switch into different jobs and had since expressed their affection for Hillary Clinton.

He said: “The former head of the CIA, Michael Morel, went to the New York Times and endorsed Hillary Clinton. George Bush’s CIA head General Hayden went to the Washington Post and did the same thing.

“They both accused Trump of being a recruit of Vladimir Putin, they were in agreement with Hillary Clinton’s views.

“I would say that any rational human being with even minimal history of the US and the CIA would take everything that the CIA says with a huge grain of salt. I would call it a dose of rational scepticism given that how many times in that past the agency has lied and been in error.

Replying to Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis, who continued to press Mr Greenwald on whether the CIA was “partisan”, the former Guardian journalist fired back.

Mr Greenwald said: “You know, of course, don’t you, that the Iraq war was started because that agency said that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and was in alliance with al-Qaeda, so of course people should treat those claims sceptically."

Trump himself has denied the scandalous claims, attacking the media for publishing what he called "fake news".

Except that's not what the CIA did, at all. CNN didn't release the documents and have not referred to their contents in any specific way at all. Why is this so difficult for people to understand? They reported on a security briefing, which Obama and Biden are confirmed to have received.

I saw the interview on Tucker Carlson. He had a good point.

Mostly that Trump is going to have a hard time because these CIA men don't like that Trump wants to roll back their operations. Especially in Syria.

They loved the warmonger Hillary because she was going to escalate the war in Syria and impose bans on Russia. Most likely starting aggressive retaliatory action by Russia.

I don't think there's any question that the intelligence field is opposed to Trump. Trump has shown that he doesn't like them, and doesn't really respect what they are doing. He's taken steps to undermine them. On that same note, the intelligence agencies have shown that they don't really like him, and don't respect him. They will take steps to undermine him.

I find it just as silly to imply that Democrats do not trust the CIA in general.

I'm sure some people are jumping on the wagon because it looks bad for Trump. But I don't see how you could provide evidence that it's an overwhelming trend within the Democratic party.
