Help to analyse logs

Hello guys, my friend has been playing in Legion since december so he missed progress and gearing period. He decided to play as MM hunter and we boosted him to ~870ilvl. At first we thought that he had poor dmg because he was lacking artifact's traits, but now he has around 25th trait and his dps in bracket is max 40%, so quite pitiful (sometimes he's below tanks in dps, good geared tanks but still tanks ). Could you help me analyse his logs (we did en normal alt run today) and tell me what he has to improve to do decent dps?

He knows pretty well that he sucks in it but has no idea what to do to improve it a little.

I know that site quite well, we've compared his logs to other hunters (with similar ilvl) and despite that differences weren't big, dps was terrible.

Some things I see @ Ursoc:


No Trueshot?
He had 30 marking target proccs but only used Marked shot ~14 times(?)
I guess its fine to lose out on a few now due to how often they proc back to back but that's really a lot.

And.. what ilvl is his weapon? I can't believe his avg. AiS is only 341k or something with ilvl 870+? Seems like poor itemization

he's trying to fit 3 AiS in each and every Vulnerable window, and that's just complete garbage and he shouldn't do that.

It's much easier and better to go for 1 AS and 2 AiS each. And sometimes even 2/3 AS and 1 AiS (depending on haste/latency/movement).
He should use as many Marked Shots as possible, without overriding Vulnerable if he can fit in another AiS.

Taking a look at the timeline in general seems like he's desperately searching for proccs even though he's at max focus, not sure if he doesn't know that auto-shot procs it, and AS will just apply the debuff, but there is no point in doing Arcane Shots if he's at maximum focus. If he's capping Focus, he should go for a Aimed Shot instead, even if it's an unbuffed one.
He used windburst 3 times over a duration of two and a half minutes. If he doesn't want to refresh Vulnerable in the middle of it, he should use it right before or right after Marked Shot.

He caps out a lot. (mostly due to his weird 3 AiS / Vulnerable thing)
