Neither. Rather be living in the suburbs with a wife and kids.
You generally don't get to choose in that scenario.
I'd probably go mental hospital. Likely safer there overall.
Mental hospital for non-criminal types.

Prison, I mean do you really want to be in the mental hospital with people that are crazy? At least in the pen they put you with similar people.
In which country?
How long would I have to stay?
I imagine it to be difficult / almost impossible to find a job with a mental hospital record.
I'd have to have a trial period in both.
I've heard that prison can be fun if you're charismatic. There's one guy who got together a D&D team with the other inmates and he spends his days writing new stuff for their game.

Prison. I can at least be sure I'll have a firm grasp of reality.
Mental hospital. Atleast their you are surronded by trained Personel, who know how to care for you. Were in a Prison you are guarded by people, who have very little trainning if any at all with dealing with Mentall Illnesses.
Hospital, you get legal drugs.

Only if you're talking about some very advanced measurements that are too expensive to be in use. A mental illness is very hard to fake over time in the company of trained nurses and doctors, but there's no machine you can put people into to identify any and all mental illness.
