They accepted law, that said, in a word *if you slap your wife/kid without consequenses to their health, you go to jail, but if you do same for those who are not your family member, you get first time fine, pay money, but second time - you can go to jail*.

So if you are old enough to completely understand the consequence of a criminal action and hence shall take full punishment of a crime as a adult, are you not old enough to fully understand the consequence of a normal action, like take a bank loan, buy alcohol, marry, join the army etc

There's already methods to determine age but the courts in sweden dismissed them because they're not 100% accurate. Somehow they think if the exam shows someone to be 30 it means they could be below 18 while in reality it's missing by about 2-3 years, not 10+. It's also the same method used to assess the age of people competing in sports.

The reason he is getting of light is because legally he was 17 when it happened, his actual age has no bearing on legal punishment.

The court is bound to follow the law, and the law here is lenient to young offenders in order to not lock them into a life of crime due to long prison stays.

Regardless of this, yes my country have way to forgiving punishments and this is a sentiment shared by pretty much the entire population.
