Congress looking to terminate the EPA...

    https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-...house-bill/861

It looks like it's early on, and doesn't have much details yet, but notice that's a .gov site in the link.

While it may need reform, I don't think doing away with the EPA entirely is a good thing. It has helped this country in the past. Since no real details are out yet, perhaps they will be replacing it with something else? Not sure...

I guess I find the idea of it a little disturbing, and kind of wanted to know what others thought?

The Environmental Protection Agency shall terminate on December 31, 2018.
The entirety of the text of the proposed bill. I'm not kidding.

This is the kind of pointless, stupid, wasteful political grandstanding that is sadly commonplace in the legislature. Nothing will come of us, though those involved should be forced to walk around Capitol Hill with bright "Dunce" caps on. Probably put bells on them so everyone can hear when they're coming, too.

They don't breath our liberal air, or drink or socialist water!
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

The environment is just politically correct nonsense. Who needs it anyway?

And to counter this I expect a number of climate change deniers and anti-science folks to claim that Congress is doing this because they have "proof" that all scientists are conspiring against American Capitalism via the EPA and that abolishing it will do good things.

Republicans can just pay top dollar for clean stuff. Everyone else can just enjoy having it theoretically "accessible"

Well, this is entirely appropriate now...

Well, the Republicans are welcome to go drink the water in Flint, Michigan if they want.

It won't matter. Trump, Pruitt, and the rest of the Republican congress will just destroy the EPA's budget and staffing. The EPA will be dead before December 2018 anyway.

Absolutely sickening. Our government is hooked up to the fossil fuel and industrial industry teat while deflecting with arguments like 'regulation should be up to the state'.

I wonder how many health disasters will occur before outrage reinstates the EPA.

It's worth noting that the Flint debacle was due to local government incompetence. Ironically, state and local government is exactly what Republicans say should be responsible for environmental regulations as they claim federal law shouldn't be involved in that. Flint is a perfect example of why we *do need* some federal oversight.
