Russia calls Romania a 'clear threat' and Nato outpost for hosting US missile shield

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...-a7571031.html

Russia sees Romania as a Nato outpost and "a clear threat" due to it hosting elements of a US anti-missile shield, a senior foreign ministry official has said.

"Romania's stance and the stance of its leadership, who have turned the country into an outpost, is a clear threat for us," Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko told the Interfax news agency in an interview.

The US military says the shield is needed to protect from Iran, not threaten Russia.

The $800m (£637m) Romanian part of the missile shield was switched on in May last year. Another part is due to be built in Poland.

Accusing Romanian authorities of revelling in anti-Russian rhetoric, Mr Botsan-Kharchenko said: "All these decisions... are in the first instance aimed against Russia."

Speaking separately, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov said Russia considers the deployment of Nato troops and military hardware in the Baltic states, Poland and Germany as a threat.

Mr Meshkov said Moscow was watching closely and would ensure its own security was guaranteed.

"This deployment is of course a threat for us," he said. "And who said that it will end with this? We do not have such information. For the first time since World War Two we see German soldiers along our borders."

Mr Meshkov's comments come after the United States deployed thousands of soldiers and heavy weaponry to Poland, the Baltic states and southeastern Europe in its largest build-up since the Cold War.

German troops and armour are due to reinforce Lithuania this month under Nato plans.

US and Nato officials say the move is needed to provide extra security and reassurance to European countries after Russia's 2014 annexation of Ukraine's Crimea, but Russia says it is part of an aggressive strategy on its borders.
    Run, Romanians run!!!!!!

Russia should just fuck off. Who cares about what they say after Crimea? 'Aggressive strategy on its borders' - when's the last time that happened? WW2?

Trump is a problem to this because he wants to build relations with Russia.

You just keep sanctions up. Russia GDP is behind countries like Canada and South Korea, places with 1/4 the population or less. Just let them go poor enough even the nukes will be too expensive to maintenance once they drop behind mexico.

Precisely the attitude that made Crimea happen. You learn nothing from your mistakes, don't cry then when you face consequences.

The same concerns that the same Russian officials have stated for years.... Theyve complained about NATO for decades. Nothing new here at all.

But when the USA has 8,000 bases outside of the USA and Russia has 2 its easy to see why they complain when more and more bases are set up around their borders tbh.

This missile shield breaks the nuclear balance in a world that threatens the concept of assured mutual destruction in the event of nuclear war. Of course Russia will target countries that have such systems, and will be looking for counter measures. The side that tries to change that balance is wrong.

No one in Romania is blind to the threat of Russia.

Precisely why we overwhelmingly support the Missile Shield

I sincerely hope you're not as stupid as you want to be seen. Telling to fuck off is just a basic trend of a bigger problem - ignoring Russia's interests.
Russia was told to fuck off by West numerous times in the past since collapse of the Soviet Union, which is partly why you get a more agressive Russia today.

It's like being afraid of the bear and poking it with the stick at the same time..
Missile shield won't save you anyway if the war starts.

So... Can we like call Russia a threat and invade it? I mean that would finally make the Russians right that we wanted to invade them all along.

I also like how a defense, is considered a threat, I mean that is some next level bullshitting.

Maybe then Russia should withdraw it's Iskander-Ms from Kaliningrad or S-400s from Syria or not expand the Joint CIS Air Defense System, which they are.

Not seeing people complain about those.

We aren't naive to think a single SM-3 Battery is enough to stop Russia, but it's a start.

Now ask yourself why they are doing this and who started doing it first, telling Russia to fuck off. Spoiler it was NATO. So you really should be aware of what caused what here.

There's no poking the bear here.
If you want a correct analogy: It's like being afraid of the bear and putting on a full-body armour in case the bear gets mad.
The "shield" is defensive missiles, not nuclear ICBM.
Vanilla player since day 1 Europe.
I think everything should be account-wide.
Cross-faction grouping for dungeons and raids should be a thing.

Again, it's like wearing a bulletproof vest against a bear, he's still going to maul you.
Therefore it serves little purpose other than to pester Russia, and Iran/China.
