Two leading Swedish politicians have a message for President Trump’s critics: He’s right.

Per Jimmie Akesson and Mattias Karlsson, both leaders of the Sweden Democrats, penned a Wall Street Journal op-ed on Wednesday supporting Trump’s characterization of a Muslim immigrant-led crime crisis in Sweden.

“Mr. Trump did not exaggerate Sweden’s current problems,” Akesson and Karlsson wrote. “If anything, he understated them.”

Trump was ridiculed by many after he gave a speech Saturday citing Sweden among a list of European countries affected by the scourge of Islamic terror. Referring to the massive number of Middle Eastern refugees that have poured into the country, Trump said Sweden was “having problems like they never thought possible.” Some Swedish politicians openly derided Trump’s portrayal of the country – but riots in a heavily immigrant suburb of Stockholm on Monday evening put an end to most of the mockery.

“Riots and social unrest have become a part of everyday life,” Akesson and Karlsson wrote. “Police officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel are regularly attacked. Serious riots in 2013, involving many suburbs with large immigrant populations, lasted for almost a week. Gang violence is booming. Despite very strict firearms laws, gun violence is five times as common in Sweden, in total, as in the capital cities of our three Nordic neighbors combined.”

They added: “Anti-Semitism has risen. Jews in Malmo are threatened, harassed and assaulted in the streets. Many have left the city, becoming internal refugees in their country of birth.”

The Sweden Democrats duo ended the op-ed with a warning for the United States.

“For the sake of the American people,” Akesson and Karlsson wrote, “with whom we share so many strong historical and cultural ties, we can only hope that the leaders in Washington won’t make the same mistakes that our socialist and liberal politicians did.”

We must heed this warning and I hope for the sake of Sweden's future something's gonna change sooner than later.

While calling them neo-nazis is a stretch there sure are certain members of that party that are flat out nazis. It wasn't that long ago their whole platform was based on fascism and blatant nazism with a goal to eradicate all jews. Former nazis in suits, is a fitting description for these guys.

The part about anti-semitism is really bothering me. 70 years ago right winged people actually killed a lot of jewish people and nowadays you have right winged people caring about them and accepting them because they were born in sweden. That is what I call progress.
They are calling out where this anti-semitism is coming from. And its not from the right winged side of sweden, but from muslim immigrants.

Lets be real now - they, as a party, isn't an inch closer to nazism than the Left Party is to militant Stalinism. They absolutely have issues, noone tries to deny that, definitely not, but you're exaggerating enough to seem outright ridiculous. I mean, it isn't all that long ago the Left Party actually WAS communist (their former leader comes to mind), and the Social Democrats advocated for eugenics and sterilization of handicapped people (well, actually sterilized them, not only advocated for it). Sure, their ties to a dark past is closer to the here and now (well, not compared to parts of the Left Partys sordid history, it isn't), and they sure as hell need to keep up their policy of throwing out members doing racist and similar things to be taken seriously - but good luck trying to paint their leader in any such light. His behaviour has certainly been impeccable as far as I have seen, and he is clearly one of the more calm and sane participants at party-leader debates. Whether one likes the policies of his party or not.

Also, lets not pretend that the Left Party, and others close to them in ideology, isn't far, FAR more antisemitic than the Swedish Democrats are, as a party - if anyone has tendencies towards sentiments akin to "eradicate the jews", it sure as hell isn't the party always backing Israel and having several jews in the party leadership. Particularly not when some other parties have openly antisemitic messages in their demonstrations (seen one by the Left Partys youth wing myself, and it was outright disgusting, let me tell you - and I'm certainly not particularly fond of the actions of the state of Israel myself, for that matter).

At least an immigrant getting paid would spend his money in the same country. That money going to China/Asia is not circulating back at all.

Well, not entirely true, that. In 2014, a study showed that immigrants sent close to 2 billion Euro to their home countries, instead of using them here. That's rather a lot, particularly when compared to such things as the foreign relief budget, and how many of them that are actually employed in the first place. Not that you don't have a point, but still.
