Trump pressures 'sanctuary cities' that won't hold undocumented immigrants

    This is fantastic!! Accountability!

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/w...ties/99404732/

In a move to put public pressure on "sanctuary cities," the Department of Homeland Security on Monday published a list of 118 localities that have refused to cooperate with federal requests to detain undocumented immigrants.

President Trump ordered the department to publish a weekly list of all detention requests turned down by local jails, listing the agency, the undocumented immigrants and the charges they face. In an executive order signed Jan. 25, Trump said the list is necessary to "better inform the public regarding the public safety threats associated with sanctuary jurisdictions."

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly ordered Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to start producing the list last month, and on Monday, the agency issued its first public report.

It lists 206 cases in which undocumented immigrants were arrested on local charges and were set to be released from jails. ICE officials requested that the local authorities hold onto those people for up to 48 hours — a request known as a "detainer" — but the requests were denied.

The 206 denials took place the week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 3, although the arrests occurred as early as 2014.
Here is to hoping that Trump revokes DACA and deports every single illegal immigrant in the USA.

No "pathway to citizenship" - ever.

I have no problem with people being forced to uphold the law.

"states rights!", unless they don't do what we want.

Oh the hypocrisy from "Emperor Cheeto." It's okay when he crys about agencies refusing to cooperate with him in the name of "public safety" but it's not okay for the EPA to tell the public how bad they and we are getting fucked.....

So in essence, he's naming and shaming with no actionable plan to do anything?

Sure, the existence of a law is never a justification for it. If you ban a victimless action, you are restricting the most possible freedom. A brown person crossing an invisible line in the dirt in Arizona is not hurting anyone.

The actionable plan will be to reduce - or eliminate - their Federal funding.

well I can only hope they get nothing done on this front. Because I know for a fact these assholes probably aren't going after European or hell even Asian illegals. Just the brown people that mow yards.

Why do you think it is only "a brown person"? there are a lot of illegals in this country that are very white and very black. The majority are Latino, but that is beside the point.

I don't think name and shame is all that effective when the entities that you're attempting to shame are actively telling you to fuck off.

But I guess people in rural Texas can get pissed off at cities in New York! Yeah, public pressure! Lol.

Great idea! Cut funding to people who don't agree with you! What could possibly go wrong?

Because the right isn't fooling anyone when they make a boogeyman out of illegal immigrants.

That's not besides the point. The xenophobia is growing, and the trend is clear... a fear of brown-skinned people.

Why do you and Trump hate freedom so much? Let illegals work, let the free market and capitalism reign supreme.

Why not? Why should we restrict actions which cause no actual harm? Isn't that how liberals justify banning all sorts of things?

Pretty much, because he can't actually do anything. There's a long standing precedent in law that the federal government can't withhold funding from states on issues unrelated to the funding in question.

So for example if the federal government gives money to states to target marijuana growing but they don't act on that, then the federal government can withhold that funding money, but it can't withhold funding for say infrastructure repairs. The courts found that to be essentially blackmail and consequently illegal due to infringing on their rights. The end result is that Trump can do diddly squat except things like this which will just be ignored.

Funny, when AZ passed a law that made it harder for illegal immigrants to reside in the state, the left was falling over themselves in pressing the federal government to shoot it down on the premise that only the federal government has the legal authority to enforce (or not enforce) immigration law.

Now that the feds are holding states feet to the fire in having their LEO's report criminal illegal immigrants to ICE for deportation, now the left are falling over themselves advocating for "states rights"

Jesus guys, these aren't just random illegals we are talking about here, these are illegals that are being held for criminal actions that threaten our safety I.E. DUI
