    Sport teams moving cities

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2...aign=editorial

So Oakland Raiders are moving to Las Vegas

Why do Americans even bother to support sports teams when there team could up sticks before your team tattoo you got on your arm is even 10 years old?

I mean does local pride mean nothing?

I don't think teams move that often anyway. In this case, I think the city wouldn't contribute to a new arena, so their arena was pretty shit. Don't quote me though.

That's why you need to give the big sport teams a name with the city they belong to ---> fc barcelona, real madrid etc.

I find it fucking weird and I wouldn't support a team that can't bothered to be headquartered in the city it is named after. Moving cities is basically akin to taking a dump on your fanbase.

    I think its dumb.

In the 90s the Bengals threatened to leave Cincinnati if the city didn't pay to build them a new stadium. The stadium cost upwards of $600 million and the county continues to pay for operating expenses, its estimated the total cost will be north of a billion dollars by the time the lease is up.

And just a little while back they were making threats to leave again unless the city dropped a couple tens of millions of dollars to do some upgrades they wanted.

Thankfully, it'd ruin a football club if they moved to another city. Most team also have the name in their club name, so they would also need a name change. Which only further harm it.

Cities like Detroit and Buffalo can hold onto a franchise but a major city like Oakland can't? I don't get that.

The situation with Oakland? Yeah, I think its dumb.

You'd get out of Oakland too if you had the chance.

I don't even understand why people even bother with sports to begin with. Love to play them, hate watching them.

"Local pride" with premier sport teams is an oxymoron. Hence I find the fandom of those teams completely ridiculous.

    Not everyone can play sports.

Oakland has the undisputed worst NFL stadium in the league and vegas coughed up $750 million that Oakland wouldn't for a new stadium. The move is kind of a no brainer.

Vegas getting an NFL and an NHL team is an interesting development, though.

Still a shitty move for the fans.
Then again, in the US, they are brands and not clubs, if i'm not mistaken?

Aren't the Raiders originally from LA anyway?

From what I have been told, the Raiders have poor fan turnout anyway, with a shitty stadium that the city won't help pay for. ./shrug I don't know about Buffalo, but Detroit has a strong fan base even though... its in Detroit.

Fans dont mean fuck all to the sport team owners in the USA and it really makes me wonder why people bother to go to support them.

I support Birmingham City Football club a sports team that has been in existance since 1875 and it will be around long after iam dead but i wouldnt even bother if i knew that if another city gave the owners a bribe and a shiny new stadium that they would up sticks then i wouldnt even bother to go.

Why cant the NFL just allow for more sport teams to be created? Why do they allow other cities to steal other cities sports teams that have loyal followings and more importantly why dont fans no cause a stink?

If my team DID try that they would burn the stadium down and prolly lynch the owners!

Sort of. They're businesses. They'll go where they think the profit will be.

I'm not sure about the Raider's terms, but Oakland has probably the shittiest stadium for both professional baseball and football in the US. I wouldn't want to play there or see a game there.

Literally. Oakland has one of, if not THE worst stadium in professional sports, and isn't doing anything about building a new one. I feel for the fans, but the city is making it really hard for the team to stay (although in general I think teams should be responsible for paying for much more of their new stadiums than is the current status quo).

    Sorry, I quoted you

This has been answered - its bad for most people in this scenario. It sucks for the loyal fans there, but with poor fan turnout, a shitty stadium that the city won't help with... I'm not surprised at the result.

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/attendance

Oakland is at the bottom. Look who is on top though.. Dallas at 1, and Green bay at 4. Dallas is fucking hot, and haven't even been good until this season. Green Bay has been good, but it can get below zero there. So a stadium that is extremely cold is selling out tickets to every game....

I know the city doesn't want to give money away, but they also make money off these stadiums, through travel, through taxes, through other expenses as well. It seems like Oakland doesn't even want them there.

Yeah I totally agree on your last point.. the teams are making off like bandits here.
