Those web dictionaries are garbage by the way.

Here's Merriam-Webster, you Americans like that shitty thing right?

Not all links are created equal.

Just because a WebMD link is bullshit, doesn't mean I don't believe doctors. Keep being dishonest though.

You are confusing a company with the people, of course you can have many failures but Trump's string of failures even in times of real estate booms speak for themselves. I give him plenty of credit for taking risks but at some point you have to show that you have what it takes.

With some of the largest mergers in history only occurring in the past ten or fifteen years? I don't think so, Tim.

Nepotism is perfectly acceptable in some circumstances.

If Trump wants to give his daughter a cushy job in the family business thats fine. If he wants to give her a job as a presidential assistant, well, not so much!

That is a horse shit, pulled out of your ass statistic. At my place of employment there is not a single person who is related to the other. No one was friends outside of work before they started working here either.

Heck that isn't even necessarily true, there have been cases of nepotism breeding more nepotism, which of course does start at some point where someone supposedly worked hard.

    What's wrong with that?

Us living in a western society, in peace, with nice infrastructure and social security is us reaping the rewards of previous generations blood, sweat and tears.

You do realize that networking and nepotism are not the same thing, right?

No, it includes favoring people you know too.

Nepotism happens because typically family look after each other. It's not natural to watch your family fail without wanting to intervene. For example if your brother lost his job/house most siblings would let him stay for a bit to get back on his feet. Same for the business world, you want to see your family succeed, so you set them up in positions where they can meet influential people.

I don't really care about nepotism per se, the only funny thing about the Trump kids (Eric and Donald Jr.) is that they constantly talk about politicians being leeches and getting rich off the system, when their whole lives literally revolves around leeching off their dad. At least Ivanka semi-tries to do her own thing.

    Which is objectively worse:

    • Favoring competent people who are part of your family

    • Taking a competent stranger who will make it his duty to enforce the typical Republican agenda

Nepotism is wrong, objectively. But given the context, while still being wrong, I just wonder if the consequences of not applying nepotism wouldn't actually make the whole situation... well, worse. As if we needed that.

Links provided for that too. There is some disagreement on whether or not close friends fall into this category or not. They in fact do however.
