First answer would be : just wait your promotion and buy better once able to.
Second answer would be : buy a seiko 5. Amazing automatic watch I wear when I'm too worry to hurt my dailies watches. (bought it for my time in the army, use it on many other activities now)
Check ebay for the seiko. It's only really sold in asia.
Could never stand Wrist watched, Have been using my Great-grandfather's pocket watch since I was 18.
MVMT do some nice looking watches at reasonable prices. They have a shit load of colour and styles to choose from. This for example is only $95..

[QUOTE=mage21;45321278] A guy I used to know who knew about these kinds of things praised Tag Heuer. As far as nice watches go, they're very affordable.
Affordable is subjective, they are not within OP's budget.
Rolex is still a very nice luxury watch for business, I feel. Really classic design outside of the diving and boating watches.
I think Weiss and Omega make nice masculine watches for casual wear. I think the 'speedmaster' line is very sporty for most non-formal situations.
Girard-Perregaux and Forsey make the best formal watch wear without resorting to the jewelry end of a Rolex or Hauer, or as meh as a Montblanc.
Every time I see a man wearing a Montblanc I think it is either his only good watch (bad impression) or he has many fine watches (good impression). Could go either way depending on how you carry yourself. But I think they are meh and would be more impressed by a cheaper but peppier Atlantic or Frederique Constant. So it's a waste of a grand or two, IMO.
Take this advice from a lady on men's style if that matters to you.

I own two Rolex, the submariner I posted on the last page (not actual photo) and an Explorer II. I own an older Omega and had a Tag but lost it I have a bunch of G shocks as well and somewhere a Movado. The sub is by far my favorite and I wear it everyday, Explorer is also out at Rolex so there's that..
Yea, they still look good. I think the reputation is well earned as a classic watch for many occasions. Hard to go wrong. Probably the safest choice for an elegant watch.
I kinda like Tag and Vic for a casual look too.
Going out to clubs while on vacation- I think a sporty Tag suits a gentleman very well. Sexy.
i'm just gonna wait for that one guy to come in and start bragging about his rolex.
