UK PM Theresa May to seek snap election.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-39629603

I guess she thinks the time is right to send Labour into the abyss.

Think your thread was seconds ahead of mine so I'll post here:

This just seems like a simple PR move, Corbyn's labour is doing horrifically right now and seems unimaginable that he'll win and she'll be able to use the victory to springboard into saying "look, I'm elected now, the people want my Brexit!".

    RIP GBP.
I think they had a 21% lead in the last polls. Labour could be absolutely crushed in this election. The conservatives will have the sort of majority that could take another two elections to reverse.

I am going to England end of May and fly back to Malta at 7am on the 8th June.

    Thanks Theresa.

Looks like we're about to see the largest majority of the modern era.

Labour will be put to the sword, while the Lib Dems will probably surge.

Its a real shame since we could really do with getting rid of May.

Would also be nice if labour got their fucking shit together and got behind Corbyn Dallas Multipass.

Labour will suffer its worst defeat since before WW2. At least the useless Corbyn will finally be gone.

Time might be short, but couldn't you vote from Malta, by mail or at the consulate/embassy? Or is that going to be impossible to arrange?

Apart from that, this will delay negotiations about Brexit. The timing seems weird.

id rather we removed the tories from power all together tbh. no matter the state of labour, i believe in them more than in any possible tory leader.

This isn't about taking advantage of Labour. And it isn't about seeking a mandate for their kind of Brexit. I think there is one reason why this election has suddenly been called out of the blue.

The investigations that are going on into the over-spending by the Tories in the last election can't be delayed any longer, and they are going to report that a) there was over-spending and b) that all the Tory held seats where the offences took place will require by-elections. This would be terrible publicity (assuming any of the MSM actually reported it) and would almost certainly result in the Tories losing their overall majority.

So, to avoid that they are calling a snap GE, knowing that when the results of the investigations become public, they can't result in any by-elections because the GE would already have taken place.

Oh, and if any of you don't know what I'm talking about, I'm really not surprised. Weirdly enough the fact that there are police investigations going on into election spending by the Tories in multiple constituencies hasn't been reported anything like as much as it should be. Or anything like as much as it would be if Labour were doing it rather than the Tories.

Fingers crossed this backfires horribly on May and her lizard pals, and everyone finally sees what they are doing to anyone that isn't rich in this country. An electoral wipe-out of that crew of slimeballs would be a welcome tonic after the political nonsense of recent times.

I like this woman. She knows just when to stomp on her opponents' necks. I think her and old Winston would have gotten along famously.

Frankly, this is just the wake-up call the hard Left in Britain needs. They are losing because many people see them as caring more about some idea of a grand Federal Europe than about their own country. Corbyn is a loon. Someone like him belongs in the Libdems, not in Labour. There have been lots of decent Labour politicians, and Corbyn is a mockery of that past.

Really, though, this is a microcosm of the situation on the Continent. The hard Left in Europe has gone so far off the course of sensibility that hard Right parties are growing in support as people seek someone to stop them. It would appear many Europeans have forgotten their history. The last time there was a course correction of this sort in Europe about, oh, 80+ years ago, matters went a bit off the rails.

To the hard Left I would say: If you will not have the middle course of moderation and sensibility, you will get an extreme of some sort. It will not necessarily be the one you would like.

Negotiations probably weren't going to take place until after the German elections in any case.

I'm a centrist and and although I certainly don't want May's hard Brexit I'm not sure I can bring myself to vote for Labour. I don't mind Corbyn particularly but the people he's surrounded by, McDonnell, Abbott etc., I can't stand. So, I'll vote Lib Dem, not that it will make any difference in my seat as it's safe Tory sadly.

It'll be interesting to see where the UKIP vote goes (4 million-odd). Have a feeling the Conservatives will hoover up most of them now that their fox has been shot.

I could do, not sure if I will bother. I would be voting Tory (Conservative), this is the current polling and polling tends to underrepresent the Conservative vote...

Crush the Labour Party. See Corbynistas driven before you, and hear the lamentations of Abbott and Thornberry.
