Donald Trump invites Rodrigo Duterte to Washington

What's that rascal Trump going to do next?

Duterte the President of the Philippines has been criticized for authorizing police to shoot thousands of drug addicts, dealers and the rebels in the South without a trial.

US president Donald Trump has invited Philippines leader Rodrigo Duterte to the White House during a phone call that also addressed concerns over North Korea, the White House said in a statement.

The White House gave no details of when the leaders would meet in Washington to discuss their alliance, but said Trump looked forward to visiting the Philippines in November as part of two summits with other Asian nations.

A readout of the call on Saturday said the discussion between the two was “very friendly” and the US-Philippines alliance was “now heading in a very positive direction”.

The pair talked about “the concerns of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) regarding regional security, including the threat posed by North Korea”.

The phone call also touched on Duterte’s war on drugs, in which some 7,000 people have died at the hands of vigilantes and state sanctioned death squads. Trump has previously praised the drug war.

“They also discussed the fact that the Philippine government is fighting very hard to rid its country of drugs, a scourge that affects many countries throughout the world,” the readout said.

“President Trump enjoyed the conversation and said that he is looking forward to visiting the Philippines in November to participate in the east Asia summit and the US-Asean summit. President Trump also invited President Duterte to the White House to discuss the importance of the the United States-Philippines alliance.”

Last week a Filipino lawyer filed a complaint at the international criminal court (ICC) accusing Duterte and 11 other Philippine officials of mass murder and crimes against humanity.

In the 77-page complaint Jude Sabio says the president has “repeatedly, unchangingly and continuously” committed extra-judicial executions or mass murders over three decades, amounting to crimes against humanity.

Not supporting somebody who kills of his own population makes that happen, yes.

Trump's obviously okay with casual racism and sexism, why not throw casual murder on there as well?

President Trump seems to shift policies after 10 minute conversations with foreign leaders.

Who knows where this one will lead?

Good. Push them harder that way. Duterte boasts about throwing people out of helicopters himself, he has no place in the western world.

He's going to ask for tips on how to be a more effective dictator. He has the first few steps down. Attempting to destroy the integrity of the media so his followers look only to him as a reliable source of information; threatening to break up court systems that routinely stand in the way of his edicts; using his position to further his own economic interests; filling his staff with yes-men, cronies, and/or family members that aren't competent in their roles, as well as all profit financially directly or indirectly from their association with the president; and attempting to ruin the credibility of anyone that says anything that runs counter to what he thinks or says as being an enemy of the people and/or fake news, are all part of the dictator playbook.

Sooner or later he'll move on to executions of those he views as dangerous or subversive to the narrative he's building for himself in Washington.

It's a shame that for all the shitty decisions and scripts' faults, the Star Wars prequels laid down such an exquisite plan on how to walk the path to power using fear, manipulation, and lies to trick people into not only wanting to install you as their leader but continuing to justify all your terrible actions under the pretense of trying to save the country from something that wasn't/isn't much of a legitimate threat to it in the first place.

If I recall correctly, it was a very short, awkward meeting, seeing as Duterte had just called Obama a "son of a whore".

But no, completely the same thing, yeah.

Ha! Don't feign like a government murdering its citizens is something that particularly bothers you.

Since it was only yesterday that Trump complained about the US's system of checks and balances which prevent him from doing what he wants, its only natural to get advice from another wannabe dictator on how he can overcome them.

Before the camps, I regarded the existence of nationality as something that shouldn’t be noticed - nationality did not really exist, only humanity. But in the camps one learns: if you belong to a successful nation you are protected and you survive. If you are part of universal humanity - too bad for you -Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

To be fair, I just switch between different socialist/commie sigs to piss off people like Spectral.
The social democracy of Willem Drees is what I really support, not that a certain group knows the difference.
