Can you get into legal trouble for games like Senran Kagura now?

Important disclaimer: I don't own Senran Kagura games and have the PSN and Steam profiles to back up that claim. But I was reading how Sony is restricting brutal regulations on crap like Senran Kagura under UN pressure. The guy behind the series then departed.

You can also throw in shit like Gal Gun, Onechanbara, Akiba's Strip, "visual novels," and Dead or Alive in here, but if you were to own these games before those enforcements, could you get into legal trouble? I'll at the least admit I liked and owned some old DOA games. But not much more.

EDIT: It's difficult to find an official Sony statement on their new policies but this is enough

Yes, as for 2019 owning an RPG maker eroge is considered a war crime.

Well, things like book-burning happened in mankind's history, so I won't be surprised at all.

And even using word 'mankind' instead of Orwellian newspeak 'humankind' is already widely considered a thought crime so it's for you to judge.

No you couldn't and you still won't be. Also this is the first I've heard of the UN being involved in Sony's regulations, especially considering it's Sony who's been making all the decisions to censor and Nintendo hasn't been threatened with anything, east or west. Also let's be frank, there are much much worse games than Senran and the others listed out there and they don't get people in legal trouble.

Can you get in trouble? I don't know.

Should you get in trouble? No.

What's worse in a similar league than Senran Kagura that isn't a visual novel (complete porn game)? Like out on the market just like any other game.

Yes, absolutely you are going to be in trouble. If they catch you they are going to arrest you and place you in a facility to deprogram you so you no longer are a danger to yourself or society. Rumor has it that the deprogramming may take upwards of 2-5 years.

I said in a normal market. This is clearly a pornographic developer located exclusively in Japan.

Anyway as for the UN policies, it was reportedly to crack down on the pedophilic crisis in anime culture slipping through the laws of "it's fiction." Not anymore, good riddance. I applaud Sony for their efforts to be closer to America in ethics. By their own exact words. The UN bit is visible in Google if you search the story in, it's a longer thing.

OP knows an awful lot about these games and seems very concerned for someone who is really adamant that they don't own any of them.
..and so he left, with terrible power in shaking hands.

Good god if America is the standard for business ethics then we're fucked.

They're world leaders in milking out every cent of every dollar so a couple of people can own the worlds assets.

Also I hear there were anime concentration camps popping up all over Japan and even in Korea.

They are taking this issue very seriously and even liking anime tiddies on facebook can get the governments eyes on you.

    Be careful what you share!!

Not on the topic at hand, but comment section for that site OP linked is easily the worst I've ever seen. The Zoe Quinn article has me really cringing. Like I get it, she's a piece of shit, but wow.

Not for "business" ethics. Moral ethics.

Also, it's not "anime." Just clearly harmful shit like Senran Kagura. There's a reason these policies have propped up from Sony.

Aite so I just looked all these up and the combat in that Onechanbara actually looks pretty damned cool. Games basically bayonetta or something.

Moral ethics like how young pop stars like ariana grande, Miley Cryus, Britney Spears dance around sometimes even dressed as school girls singing about "love me harder" etc "come into me" shaking their clams earning millions of dollars and getting prime time tv spots?

Yeah america doesnt have a issue with liking young girls either /s

That's another problem in itself. The problem here is Sony has decided to put their foot down and I'm merely wondering if it's realistically alright to keep some games like DOA and Dragon's Crown if you already bought them before. That is all.

    don't own any

Why would owning a game be illegal? What am I missing here? You can read Mein fucking Kampf legally, why wouldn't you be able to own and play a game that was legally allowed in the market? What the fuck does Sony have to do with anything? I'm really in the dark here, what's going on? I'm living in Europe so none of that bullshit concerns me but I'm just curious after looking at the thread title.

Sony can suck your fucking dick, the only thing they could ever do is ban your accounts, but if they allowed these games on their platform in the first place, then again, all they should be able to do is suck your fucking dick and shut the fuck up.

As I said technically, though they have started selling games on Steam with zero issues apart from Kotaku whining about it and have always sold their games to people in America with no problems, barring one.

I applaud you for bringing me attention to this though. Jesus christ

Yeah that was it. Of course there is worse from other developers but then you're going into a nearly exclusive Japanese market then.

Yeah if the UN was keen on protecting the children they've got some of their own books that need to be put in order if you get my drift. It's not so much ethics either as more a culture thing and I believe it was mentioned in a previous thread that the US HQ for Sony was the one pressuring these changes.

As I mentioned people won't be having any issues due to owning these games in the future, especially with DOA and Dragon's Crown considering they're not for children anyway. Not like mod usage is forced on people also.

He's talking about Sony's Censorship policy that unfairly target's Japanese Devs of games with slightly sexual content for an 18+ market, I think for some reason he thought the UN was partnering with them for it and creating a list of kiddy diddlers based off people who have played Senran Kagura, DOA and the like.
