Nicolas Cage: Good actor or Bad actor?

What is your opinion of Nicolas Cage's acting skills?

When I was younger, for some reason I was under the impression that he was considered one of the best actors in the industry. But now that I'm older and have re-watched some of his movies, my opinion is that he's a pretty bad actor, almost comically bad.

he has been the main character in some really great movies.. hes had some bad performances aswell though.. but if i have to choose between the two choices, i would have to say good.

Or maybe he's just a bad actor. He exaggerates every single emotion out there, a sign of a bad actor. It's just not believable.

Like any actor, he does a great job in roles that suit him. His main problem is that he takes just about any role that comes up. It's either that, or he just isn't bothered by trying anything, even if it's stupid. But then again, he could be in deep debt or something and has to take anything just to get by.

I'd say he's at least competent. he's just forced to take these rolls in some... truly bad bad movies, not even good bad (except Wickerman maybe, BEEEEEEEEEEE'S!?).
