Need a Cell Phone Mount for my 2004 Grand Am - Harder than I thought.

Trying to find a phone mount for my car, and my interior is awkward.

This is an example of what the interior of my car looks like. (That isn't my mirror hanging disco ball)

I tried a dashboard mount, which I put just above the radio on that ledge, but the adhesive wasn't strong enough to hold it. I think this is partially because there is a slight curve to that area which means it probably didn't have great surface area contact. I ended up trying to contact-cement it down onto that area and that held it for about 3 days before it fell off.

I've also tried a CD-slot mount, but it was so large at the base that it wouldn't fit. The CD slot on the car is "deep" into the dashboard so the base of the mount was hitting the radio preset buttons and wouldn't mount in.

I'm trying to avoid a windshield suction mount because they don't seem to stay up reliably and they also block vision and look tacky.

I don't believe a vent holder is going to work well either because of the design of the vents in this car. They're 360 degree rotational and I don't see them "holding" in place well with the weight of a cellphone and mount on them.

If you guys have any suggestions for what you use or whatever I'd love to hear it. Not looking to pay more than $20 for something like this.

That is about the best you will get for your particular dash style. Make sure your window is totally clean before using the suction cup and it will stay much longer.

If you had no budget I would say https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKL4PJICS40

But with a budget I would go with something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Macally-Unive...ne+mount&psc=1

    Everyone has a cup holder.

    I like your disco ball.

I'd try a vent mount, they're cheap and if they don't work you can return it. There are steering wheel mounts as well, I've seen some Uber drivers use them in older cars.

Yeah the more I think about it, steering wheel mounts are probably your best bet. They have straps that adjust to the size of the wheel, you'll just need to get used to it being at the top of the wheel.

Shiiiiiiiit I used to have one for my old 2000 GT lol, but long gone now so. They do exist, somewhere! Pretty sure I got mine on eBay at the time. It had a little "leg" or whatever that holds the vent in place while the holder is clipped in.

Fuck I kinda miss my Grand Am now, so much plastic but it went like stink.

Yea mines a Grand Am GT as well. Its a fun little car and its done me well, had it for about 10 years now.

Do you think this is similar to what you had?
    https://www.amazon.com/Asscom-090-85...l+phone+holder

It has a clip that attaches to the vent and then a little "support" at the bottom.

The dashboard is too "Rounded" to hold a dashboard mount in place. The picture doesn't really do it justice how curvy the area above the air vents is in the middle. You would have to mount it really far back to get it to stay.

As for windshield mounts, yes they CAN work, but they're not very reliable in general, they don't like to stick and they block your view, so I'm trying to avoid those.

    Ended up going with

Hopefully this will work well on my middle vent.

Looks like I'm too late, but I'm a huge fan of ProClip, and they do have a mount for your car:

    http://www.proclipusa.com/dashboard-...d-am/2004.cmsv

The way they work is you get a specific mount for your car and then an adaptor for your phone (or a generic adaptor.) I've been using the same car mount since 2007 and it's been great - I just get a new phone adaptor once every couple of years. Unfortunately it's a lot more than $20 but it's really top-notch.

Vent mounts are pretty hit and miss with circular vents...and they're bad news if your heat is on. Magnet mounts are fun - I use them near my bed and at my desk - but I've found they don't always hold your phone that well especially if the magnet is inside your case.

    I combined this:

    with this:

Now I have a magnet mounted quick mount/dismount phone holder. Magnet is super strong, never had my LG G3 fall off since I put both magnets in my phone case. Also I stuck the windshield mount 2 months ago and it hasn't come off. The holding mechanism is amazing.

I'm not gonna push any specific options, but they make holders which slot into your 12V accessory port, and they also make some that lock into your cup-holder. Both then have bendy arms to position the phone where you want it.

Both suck, IMO, but they may be options.

Depending whether you use your CD player or not, you could go for a mount that fits into the CD slot.

This is what I use in my GTI, since I listen to all my music though Spotify or satellite radio: https://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroo.../dp/B004G1L52Q

Never had a problem with a window mount...they are actually much more stable than vent holders, and they last several years. Then again, I'm more about functionality than looks. Mounted relatively low on the windshield, they have almost no impact to your vision.

Have you ever thought about a floor mount? Something like this. I use something similar I mounted on the passenger side transmission hump that I keep a tablet on.

I had the same issue with my Cavalier. GM apparently can't draw straight lines.

I found that a window mount was the only reliable option.

You haven't specified what phone you have, but I ended up going with this mount for my Samsung S5 Neo, though mine is the more expensive version with the built in Qi charging pad. It holds onto the windshield very well and I've yet to have it come off in over a year of use, even the regular potholes and washboard around here.

I have it mounted to the left and all the way down, so it doesn't really get in my way for vision, but is still conveniently placed for directions and such.

Cell phone on dash? What is this 2009? Get this stereo and stick it in your car. It literally is a cell phone in a stereo. Just tether your phones wifi to it and you're good to go. That's what I did for my car.

    Here to get you started.
