Would you prefer guilds or circles?

This is an issue ive had with wow for the past 14 years and mention every so often. Guilds are actually kinda antisocial. When i played vanilla i was strictly pvp. Guilds were an inpediment to recruiting players for pvp activites because some pvpers were in a raiding guild and couldnt just gquit and join a pvp guild. As a result, i resorted to not have a formal guild that used in game guild tools. I had a mish mash of people from various guilds and we used a private channel for in game chat. It was clunky and awkward and the problem was guilds.

What if they did away with guilds and reimagined them as google-style circles. You can join multiple circles at the same time and they overlap. This would allow you to join a raiding guild, a pvp guild, a leveling guild all at once as each would be its own circle.
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

Guilds need a huge revamp as a whole, in-game recruitment tools included. I wouldn't mind cross-realm elements, but doesn't mean new mythic raids gotta be cross-realm.

The guild finder tool has entries dating back to Cataclysm where guild levels were a big thing.

Just join a guild matching your needs in the first place, maybe? If YOU manage to join "antisocial" guilds at every turn and have been for the past 14 years, it's a you problem.

I've never had antisocial experiences in guilds, but then I actually make sure to match the guild I look for with what I want from the game. Your idea is rubbish in many ways but mostly due to just how unnecessary it is.

The guild I am in is part of a "circle" of guilds that shares members and has multiple raid teams. You don't have to limit yourself to one guild.

Some people want to raid. Others want to raid and pvp. Others want to pvp. They dont all fit under one guild. In theory a guild could recruit for all and subdivide but in peactice a leader likely doesnt give a shit a out raiding or pvp and so no recruitment is done. Plus. Guild chat will annoy raiders who hate pvp when its filled with pvp chat and vice versa

Why pick? If you think it is one or the other it is time to challenge your perconseptions.

And then they can join guilds matching what they want.

It's been working just fine for 14 years. I love the intimacy a guild that matches your aspirations brings. Having "circles"? Lol, just opt out of joining a set guild and find people to play with instead. Easy.

We had that in classic, they were called communities.

Apparently something working (somewhat decent) for a set amount of time forbids thoughts about improvement.

Usually people are all for change and say we need to move forward but guild changes are a brick wall for some. I suspect people identify with their guilds and are afraid change will kill their guild.

well, depend i think, for myself, i would hate to be in a guild where the members have 2-3 guild with them, if you think only one guild is antisocial imagine having each member in 2-5 guild, good luck trying to do things done

During Legion beta, developers talked about being able to be in multiple guilds. Looks like another scrapped idea...

Soooo, to explain it better for some, like GW2 has? Didn't like the idea fully, at points I do but overall, not..

I've been saying for years that Blizzard's policy of one-guild-at-a-time was dumb, counterproductive and anti-social. It's like if you belong to Facebook you can't sign up for any other social media site.

Just brain-dead dumb and they've had years and years to realize it and fix it.

It doesn't need to be confused by calling it something else. Just remove the restrictions on only being able to belong to a single guild.

While I'm at it they also ought to borrow yet another idea from Diablo III and enable larger social structures like communities. I would trade that one for some of the borrowing they did.

There is actually no reason why they couldn't implement characters being in multiple guilds. What exactly is the downside?

I'd like to see interface for a guild circle or a better interface for between guild communications. Not sure what that exactly looks like or is, but I support a move in that direction. I love my guild, but recruiting and meeting new people outside of it are a little more of a chore than it used to be. I still miss the global channel.

Maybe I would have agreed with you before my longterm guild fell apart and I've since seen a thing or two to really make me doubt that finding the right guild is that easy. For example, the last guild i joined, I specifically looked for a guild that only raided on weekdays as I work ridiculous hours during weekends. I also wanted a guild that's socially active and was only doing heroic and some m+. So I found a guild that advertised itself as being exactly that. But in reality, they didn't tick a single of those boxes. The "optional" Sunday raid wasn't for alts as their info stated, but an extra progress day. Week 2 of my trial they had decided to start mythic progress. I was told this when I zoned into the raid instance and asked if it was really meant to be set to mythic. M+? Sure, if I wanted to boost the GM's alt through a +2 (nobody would even respond when I asked if anyone wanted to do my +10-13 keys). And social? They didn't invite trials to discord. How are you meant to know the guild is a match or not when some are happy to lie this much about what they actually are and do? Of course most aren't this bad, but most seem to lie about something.

While I don't see the need to rename guilds to circles, yes, I think the guild system could be improved a great deal. The guild finder is useless. Being able to be in multiple guilds would be great, for easy socializing with sensible people while at the same time being in that progress raiding guild that thinks twitch chat is the greatest thing ever and must be emulated, or pvping, rping or whatever you'd ever want a guild for. Yes, it might be possible to find all the things you want in one guild, but is it easy? No.

You realize your issue is player based and not guild based. So change to guild system would be unnecessary.

Guilds would be fine if you were able to join more than one. Could just change your guild flag like you change your titles.

Fuck guilds, let me play with my friends, at what ever difficulty we choose, regardless of which server we are on.
