People are outraged at the Saudi Arabia football team

...For not participating in a minute silence that was commemorating the dead in the London terror attack before kick off. The snub was especially pertinent because they were playing against Australia which is the same country that one victim belonged to.

Saudi Arabia team spokes person responded with: "It's not a part of our culture".

The Australian soccer federation, known as FFA, said after the match that the Saudis knew about the plan to hold a minute's silence before Thursday's World Cup qualifying match but declined to participate.

"Both the (Asian Football Confederation) and the Saudi team agreed that the minute of silence could be held," the Australian federation said, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

"The FFA was further advised by Saudi team officials that this tradition was not in keeping with Saudi culture and they would move to their side of the field and respect our custom whilst taking their own positions on the field.

The Saudi team was immediately criticised on social media, with bewildered supporters calling on Fifa to take action on the national team.

"I hope Fifa call out Saudi Arabia on the clear lack of respect shown prior to kick-off," wrote one user. "Not participating in the minute's silence is disgusting."

I personally don't see anything wrong with this considering that a minute silence stems from paganism.

It was two Australians, Sara Zelenak and Kirsty Boden, along with three Frenchmen Xavier Thomas, Alexandre Pigeard and Sébastien Bélanger, Ignacio Echeverría from Spain, Christine Archibald from Canada and James McMullan from Britain.

Not really sure where you are coming from with the paganism thing.

Not part of your culture? People died. All you need to do is bow your head and shut up.

    Jesus.

It's not a part of our culture.

    Let's quote from Guardian -

But that appeared to clash with other instances of Gulf countries holding minute’s silences, including to mark the death of the former Saudi King Abdullah.

Pretty fucking busted. Good luck anyone trying to defend this as anything other than attemp to disrespect others.

Yeah, it's not part of their culture to mourn people killed in attacks, instead it is to fund the attackers.

    Waaayyy busted.

Of course, if you are a Western woman in Saudi Arabia with an uncovered head because it's "not in our culture" - something tells me that the Saudis would be less appreciative of that argument.

looking by the teams, it's an euro football game. I don't know where that game took place but nothing says it was in Saudi Arabia.
not trying to excuse the disrespect at all but the photo doesn't prove that the Saudi official is lying when he say it's not part of their culture.

If UEFA/FIFA or else decide to show respect to the Saudi king's passing when the Saudi themselves don't, it's another story.

EDIT: Thanks to the poster above.

Let them start their own league with their own culture.

We should import thousands of people with this culture. What could go wrong.

It was handball world championships held in Doha, Qatar yes, but that's a Gulf country with shared culture. There's also picture of Al-Ahli Saudi Arabia respecting minutes silence moment in game vs Barcelona. Now I think this explanation they don't want to respect minutes silence seems rather weak here.

so far less then what happened when the IRA was around, you know that angry catholic culture that bombed UK for 40 years.....blew up whole blocks and even executed a bus full of men after asking each one what religion they were.....

    cause brown...right?

From the video in the link it doesn't really show them not doing it, they just aren't standing in a line like the other team. Didn't really hear any booing so it's hard to tell if people there even thought much of it.

Seems like a bit of a weak excuse. Anyway, i don't know why they're bothering to play World Cup qualifiers. As things stand Qatar will probably tell them to get fucked and not let them in the country if they qualify.

The IRA did not kill in the name of Catholicism, they killed in the name of Irish republicanism, the clue is in their name.

Plus of course Irish people lived in the British Isles, what with the island of Ireland being the second largest island in the group, so we were not really importing them.
