N.J. school removes painting of President Trump grabbing cat

MORRISTOWN -- A Morristown High School student's controversial art project featuring a porcine version of President Donald Trump holding an agitated cat has been removed from the school's annual Art & Design Show amidst complaints.

Liam Shea's other work -- a painting of Trump on a missile taking a selfie -- was also removed, according to a report by MorristownGreen.com. The theme for the show was "America Takes a Selfie."

Despite the removal of her son's paintings from the show, Kelly Zeis Shea said her son will abide by the principal's decision.

"Although I was disappointed that the school decided to remove both pieces, Liam welcomed the controversy," she said. "He holds no ill will over the decision and has the utmost respect for the principal and all his teachers at MHS. He has no intention of demanding it be returned to the display or causing any trouble for the school."

Such subtlety, destined to be a political cartoonist.

I think kids need to stop watching CNN, AKA fake news, and reading FB/reddit Trump hate threads.

People need to accept him as president and get on with their lives.

On-topic: The school board should be ashamed for their censoring their student's thoughts in a bid to grovel to the supreme leader.

Wow the student's reaction to them taking it down was quite mature. With that mindset and talent, that kid's going places.

Man, people will really make a topic about anything as long as it portrays Trump negatively in their opinion. How did you even find this story?

Could make a couple bucks putting those on tshirts

Not sure if the story has been picked up by mainstream media yet (it's all over my local NJ/NY news feeds) but if it does he could sell the painting for a few thousand I'm sure.

In another article the kid said something along the lines of "I'm totally ok with them taking it down. I'm only 16 and have already achieved every artists dream. To have their work cause controversy and be censored by a government institution."

Morristown, NJ is a very well to do township and county. It's a major conservative area that is exactly the kind of place that would have parents complaining about something like art of their preferred candidate.

Seems the only people that call him "supreme leader" are the far left riffraff infesting this board. It's very telling. More Funny because they are the same ones that do that stupid "impreshun of reepubleecanz" stroke at their keyboard.

The painting is fine. He probably shouldn't have been asked to take it down but I'm sure some snowflake complained it was offensive and in an attempt to avoid conflict or controversy they asked instead asked the kid to take it down. The kid took it down without issue. Seems everyone ACTUALLY involved in this was mature and reasonable. Leave it to the internet to drag it down... smh

I meant actual positive stuff, not made up spinning nonsense.

can't say i'm in favor of suppressing art.

but i do wonder, if those others worried about the suppression of this art would also worry about the suppression of free speech going on in colleges all over the country? i doubt they would.

still, the paintings should stay up imo.

Not to hijack your thread OP, but your post reminded me of something I earlier read about a NJ school and censorship with respect to Trump:

When Grant Berardo, a junior at Wall Township High School in Wall, New Jersey, recently opened his yearbook, he noticed something different about the T-shirt he was wearing in his school photo. The "TRUMP: Make America Great Again" lettering on his shirt had been digitally removed.
