Except the working class owning the means of production IS pretty much textbook communism. Socialism generally calls for the government to own the means of production. Yes this is different because in their endgame, most communists don't want a state to exist in the first place.

See, i don't think its an issue with "Cant ever be an American" as much as its a problem with people simply not wanting to be an American. A large amount of immigrants (i don't have a specific #) come to the US and simply don't want to conform to the norm here and integrate, and that's their decision. Unfortunately, when people don't want to conform to the norms of their new country, they bring a lot of what they had in their previous country with them, which, with the example that you commented on would be people bringing the "totalitarian socialism" of Venezuela, which is an utter shit show.

I think a lot of people try to blame current American citizen for people from other nations not feeling like they're back home, and not as welcome, when in reality a lot of people simply don't want to conform and there is an innate conflict there.

Why should they be expected to conform when being a "real American" apparently means being an overweight post-truth conspiracy nut, for starters.

Secondly, this has been an issue since forever. Immigrants will always have cultural baggage, and there will always be flashpoints between cultures; that doesn't change the fact there's a distinct racial element in the hatred of illegal immigrants, it's just simply not socially acceptable to broadcast it. It's the same thing as in domestic politics; you can't say "nigger, nigger, nigger" anymore, so you have to justify it in terms of class, or wealth, or 'culture'.

It's becoming more pronounced as American politics become more acrimonious. The distinct sense of political 'othering' that the Republicans started in the Bush era is simply being taken to its natural extension whereby the opposition is much less that and more an enemy to be extirpated.
