LoL was already the biggest game when he went there.

And ironically, you are the only one that seems to be excited about Holinka leaving. Haven't you noticed in your multiple threads that no one else really cares? That should tell you something.

But it was already the most popular when he went there. Dota 2 had only just properly come out and there wasn't really anything else giving League a run for it's money. League was 4 years old when he left Blizzard. It had already cemented itself as the most popular.

If he wasn't such a clueless stubborn moron denying obvious problems and talking about nonsense nobody cares for in all the Q&A's he's been in maybe he'd not get as much hate.

It's why Ghostcrawler is remembered somewhat fondly. Yeah, the man was a douche-nozzle and an objectively bad dev, but at least he wasn't arrogant to a fault and -tried- to communicate his thoughts to people. As opposed to just plain saying 'no you're wrong shut up'. Is him being an arrogant ass community's fault? I don't think so.

I do hope things change for the better, though. I've recently begun playing Overwatch and that game proved Blizz can make a fun experience where tanks, healers and DPS all work without being god-mode or one-shotting each other in 10 year stuns.

Also, most LoL players hate ghostcrawler's changes. At least, the half-dozen or so that I was in touch with over the past few years.

Everyone ignores the true problem anyway: That people try to PvP in a PvE focused game like WoW and then cry about it.

He was a snarky asshole to players, and was quite literally there just to collect a paycheck.

Whether I have liked a developer or not I have never questioned any of their passions for WoW, gaming, or games. With Holinka, I question his passion and whether he actually even plays or enjoys the game.

I never agreed with the bashing he got. I actually remember how it all started: he repeatedly was a bit crass/bitchy (but honest) on twitter, instead of the usual neutral PR nonsense that all blues are instructed to spew out. I could easily read between the lines and actually appreciated the frank conversation for once, but the community lost its shit and the hate-train never slowed down. It never slowed down probably due to his actual performance, but still the initial hate he got was very undeserved in my opinion.

Did he do a good job with WoW PvP? no. Is PvP in a very low state atm? yes. Would another Blizzard hire have done a much better job? probably not. I honestly think that PvP is in the dumpster largely due to aggressive core game changes that have little to do with PvP itself; PvP just had to fit somehow in this meticulously calculated timesink casino we call WoW now.

I really did appreciated the intentions behind making Ashran, even though it turned out to be a steaming pile of shit. It's a shame they gave up on more intricate large-scale PvP, but at least they gave it a go. I also actually enjoyed his frank communications, which unfortunately the community quickly put an end to. I wish him the best, and at this point hope that PvP can not improve but go back to what it was prior to Legion, regardless who Blizzard hires next.
