CNN threatens to dox creator of Trump meme

CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.

CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.

This is pretty disgusting, they 'reserve the right' to dox him in the future. I'm disappointed that they forced an apology out of him, but it sounds from their statement like there was some sort of implicit threat of a national doxing.

Uhm... they already doxxed him by finding out who he is. The guy apologized and deleted his posts. They didn't force him to apologize either, as according to him he was just trolling and didn't want anyone to think he is the sort of person he pretends to be on forums.

Did you read the part of the quote directly from the article that said :

They reserve the right to publish his identity if he acts like a scumbag online? How individual online communities want to deal with scumbags is up to them, not up to CNN. They're basically reserving the right to police his words in places where CNN has no business being.

The fact that they even put in the effort to find out who he was over this indicates that they decided to compete with Trump for thinnest skin.

No, even adding political affiliation changes thus to something it isn't. This isn't persecution of a political rival. This isn't a threat that people should watch out for what they say. This became a story because the president of the US, used this guys work in a tweet. Trump might have used some foresight in what this would do to the guy, as he went through same shit with his Star of David tweet. Instead, he fucks over this guy by posting this on twitter, as the president of the free world. As if that wouldn't be scrutinized to infinity... yet, CNN is doxxing the guy by telling him they know who he is?
