The leak wasn't as widespread though. Everyone at least knew the name of Cataclysm, MoP, and WoD before launch (along with varying degrees of information). A lot of us were certain we'd hear Council of Glades or Eye of Azshara when they launched Legion. It caught us off guard in a way no prior expansion really had because of our own preconceptions.

Do we know 100% that the chinese riddles were legit? I've always been skeptical in the sense that they work by being vague enough that we could project anything we want onto them.

They got several things right, it definitely was leaked information.

Sucks though because now everyone tries to emulate those.

If this is what you're talking about, pretty much most people took it as a "fake" leak. It didn't blow up like previous leaks and was pretty much kept to that one thread for a short time. Which makes me think they are leading us with all the sou seas/Kul'Tiras/Jaina stuff, so we don't believe the actual leak because it doesn't have this stuff.

Because there's still a vocal/significant portion of the playerbase (and dev team) that thinks you can't have "war in warcraft" without HvA
