Thumbs up Justin Trudeau, dubbed 'The North Star,' lands high profile Rolling Stone cover

'Why can’t he be our president?' Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appears on cover of Rolling Stone magazine

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has become the latest cover star of iconic US magazine Rolling Stone alongside the words: “Why can’t he be our president?”

PM Trudeau is pictured on the front of the bi-weekly popular culture mag perching on the edge of a desk with his shirt sleeves rolled up.

A headline to accompany the article online reads: “Is the Canadian Prime Minister the Free World’s Best Hope?”

In the profile, writer Stephen Rodrick outlines stark contrasts between Trudeau's liberal views on health care, marijuana legalization and environmental policies and those voiced by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trudeau is quoted as saying he disagrees with Trump "on a whole bunch" of issues, but he also stresses that the two leaders have "a constructive working relationship."

Trudeau says that seeking to insult Trump "or overreact or jump at everything he says" on matters where they differ would not result in a constructive relationship.

It is usually musicians who are featured on the splash of the magazine, with the Beatles appearing on the cover as individuals or as a band more than 30 times.

Famous figures not from the world of music to have featured on the cover include Pope Francis and Barack Obama.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Rolling Stone, known more for its music coverage, has regularly covered U.S. politics over the past half-century, including publishing front-page features on former U.S. presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. The magazine, which has called itself a staunch advocate of the Democratic Party, published a 2015 cover profile of Trump during the Republican primary.

Since he was elected prime minister in 2015, Trudeau has received high-profile coverage or mentions in major American magazines, including Vanity Fair, GQ and Vogue. In June, he appeared on Live with Kelly and Ryan, during the ABC morning show's visit to Niagara Falls, Ont.
This is all over the news today. Not sure why there isn't a thread about it.

What it shows is that whether you hate or love him, one thing is undeniable, PM Trudeau is really putting Canada on the map.
Also if you think about it, a leader's job is to attract investment and tourists to his country so cover stories like this can be useful. What do you think about the cover page and the article?

I'm usually an NDP supporter that switched to Liberal last election largely because I thought Trudeau got his message across way better than Mulcair did (who is a pale shadow of Layton).

Trudeau has abandoned some key campaign promises though, so he's in the doghouse in my opinion. I will say that he's done a great job of showcasing Canada on the world stage. I think he's made a lot of missteps domestically, but he's been quite good internationally.,

Justin Trudeau is no better than any other bureaucrat who promises big and fails to deliver. Rolling Stone proves nothing by putting him on their cover and asking such a retarded question.

A liberal rag rushes to suck Canadian cock. This is shocking and newsworthy...how, exactly?

Such a great guy. His temper sure is so much better than Trump's.

This is fitting, since his mother was a slut who was pretty much gangbanged by the entire Rolling Stones.

There wasn't a thread because the vast majority of posters here are hyper-nationalist Canadians.

Are our current world leaders so bad that people feel the need to prop up Trudeau (a deeply-flawed leader in his own right) as some sort of savior?

So you're stereotyping everyone with a different view as you as a vegan liberal art grad. Shame.

Lol. Isn't this like the little brother getting a participation award when the big brother is all American in football, captain of the debate team and future Rhodes scholar and you give little bro a pat on the back for "doing a good job, little buddy".

Canada is trash on the world stage. Stfu already. If Canada was so great, it would be a state. And there is fuck all you could to do stop us.

Edit - if your bar is "he is better than Trump" that's pretty much as low as it gets. Trueblow does look good compared to "fuckwad in chief", but not that good.

Isn't Rolling Stone a racist publication, though?

Why would Trudeau want to be on the cover?
