Microsoft Paint to be killed off after 32 years

    https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...diting-program

Microsoft’s next Windows 10 update, called the Autumn (or Fall in the US) Creators Update, will bring a variety of new features. But one long-standing stalwart of the Windows experience has been put on the chopping block: Microsoft Paint.

First released with the very first version of Windows 1.0 in 1985, Paint in its various guises would be one of the first graphics editors used by many and became a core part of Windows. Starting life as a 1-bit monochrome licensed version of ZSoft’s PC Paintbrush, it wasn’t until Windows 98 that Paint could save in JPEG.

With the Windows 10 Creators Update, released in April, Microsoft introduced the new Paint 3D, which is installed alongside traditional Paint and features 3D image making tools as well as some basic 2D image editing. But it is not an update to original Paint and doesn’t behave like it.

Now Microsoft has announced that, alongside Outlook Express, Reader app and Reading list, Microsoft Paint has been signalled for death having been added to the “features that are removed or deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update” list.

    Microsoft loses yet ANOTHER exclusive.

I don't understand why they want to "remove" the software. Provide a newer and possibly "better" one? Okay. Stop providing updates to the old one? Okay. Removal? I just don't see why.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

You can take my Microsoft Paint from my cold damn hands!

(yes, I realize it only disappears if you update)

    If? If you update?

Windows 10 is the OS where updates are not optional, and they don't even let you decide when you want to update let alone choose which updates you wish to apply. It's one of the things I dislike about Windows 10, the forced hand holding when it comes to updates.

Sorry, but the correct sentence is, "Yes, I realize it only disappears when you update."

Nope but that's probably what will happen.

I know I love it. My computer rarely just shuts off at night. It has to update every night.

Paint still has it's useful uses. Usually a quick crop, flipping an image, or drawing an arrow to point something out.

All of which can be done and saved before programs like Photoshop are even finished opening.

Yeah. Update 1703 slowed down my computer all around. After I removed it, it said I need to restart my computer. After I did so, Windows started updating and 1703 was right back on.

A little further down it says it's in the deprecated column, whereby it is not being removed (yet), but will no longer be updated. So this is a bit of a sky is falling post.
